Since November 2006, people from the town of Gualeguaychu have blocked the border crossing point in protest against the building of a factory - which they claim is harmful to the environment - a few kilometres away on the Uruguayan side of the border. Argentinas goal difference is far superior to Ecuadors, and it's unlikely they will beat Chile away who have already qualified anyway. If Argentina lose 5-0 tonight they will still almost certainly be there, i seem to be the only one to realise this.

It's funny i haven't read anywhere written that they will still almost certainly be there through the playoff, or a playoff even mentioned. All it is, is Argentina won't be at the world cup blah blah blah if they lose tonight. They will be there either way! The only way they will miss out on the playoff place is if they lose 3-0 to Uruguay and Ecuador beat Chile 3-0 in Chile! And Honduras are obviously very shit compared to Argentina, so they will be at the world cup. Infact chances are Uruguay and Argentina will both be there! Both games are still 0-0 now, Argentina and Uruguay will both qualify, so this game isn't that big.

This side is very inconsistent. Didn't they lose to Bolivia 6-1 who are second from bottom.

If Argentina had lost and Ecuador won, then Uruguay would have finished 4th (and qualified), Ecuador would have finished 5th (play-offs), and Argentina would have finished 6th (out altogether). Goal difference would have made no blind bit of difference. It was very possible as Chile had nothing to play for.
maddog Posted 15 October 2009 Posted 15 October 2009 Honduras won at El Salvador last night and Costa Rica drew which means Honduras are at the world cup. Its their second one ever Costa Rica face Uruguay in the playoffs. It's only the second time they have ever reached the world cup, last time being in 1982. And a 36 year old who played in their 1998 world cup qualifiers scored the winner, and now finally has a chance to play in the world cup.
