davieG Posted 15 January 2010 Author Posted 15 January 2010 well, yes, but he saw brown play in training and picked him over hobbs - i can imagine many people agreed with that, and it certainly seemed a poor choice watching the game...the reason i mentioned the youth players is because, set where we are in the league, it is probably the best chance we'll get (especially with no reserve) team to give some of these players the chance to compete and develop beyond youth football... there just doesn't seem much about the current squad that is considering the future growth of the team; let's face it, there are players in the first team that are hardly setting the world on fire and we have, undoubtedly, one of the best youth teams in the country.... i can't believe that somewhere in their there isn't a lad mature enough to make the step up. if we are so weak at right back, why isn't o'neill getting a few minutes here and there... if howard will be in a wheel chair next season, why is he getting so much playing time. to rule out the youth team seems to be very narrow-minded and very naive as far as our development over the next few seasons is concerned. I'm not a Brown fan but Hobbs was awful at left CB in the previous game and only seems to perform in the right CB position, without Tunchev Brown appears the only option at left CB unless McGivern can repeat his performance there.

If he thinks they aren't good enough, why bother. Is it not as narrow minded to blood youngsters you don't think will make it just for the sake of it? He's not afraid of young players, King, Hobbs, Morrison and Waghorn all get game time. The difference is he thinks they are good enough.
Babylon Posted 15 January 2010 Posted 15 January 2010 You've always seemed to trust the manager's judgement. . On matters I have no knowledge of, what other choice do I have but to trust their judgement? I never presume to know more than them unlike yourself. I can only judge and pass comment on things that I see with my own two eyes.
l444ry Posted 15 January 2010 Posted 15 January 2010 If the youth team have played with that style for the last few years, it is no wonder they steamroller some sides. Other clubs are probably coaching their teams to pass it more and take risks in the "wrong" areas and our boys have taken full advantage of this. Youth and senior football are as different as stork and margarine, so it is ridiculous to expect Pearson to throw these into the fight because some over-excited forum members think a home draw with Ipswich is reason for wholesale panic!!

Not that different then
