davieG Posted 17 February 2010 Posted 17 February 2010 Not sure how they prove this but: From the MercLeicester is one of the fattest cities in the country, according to a new poll. The survey shows that seven out of 10 adults in Leicester are now overweight or obese. It suggests that the average person in the city now has a body mass index (BMI) of 28.9. A BMI of 18.5-24.9 is considered to be in the "normal" range. People with a BMI of between 25 and 29.9 are considered overweight and those in the 30-39.9 range obese. Anyone with a BMI of over 40 and over is considered to be morbidly obese. The "thinnest" area in the country is London where the poll showed the average adult had a BMI of 26.1. The latest statistics come from a national survey carried out by Slimming World and YouGov. Dr Jacquie Lavin, head of nutrition and research at Slimming World, said: "High calorie junk food has become cheaper and increasingly locally available while amenities to encourage physical activity have become fewer and further between." She added: "Being overweight is increasingly a worry for many of us and for our families and children. "It affects how we feel, our happiness and well being. She added: "Losing just five-10% of your body weight can have a hugely positive effect on your health, confidence and self esteem."
Lillehamring Posted 17 February 2010 Posted 17 February 2010 i think it says something when the average for the 'skinniest' area is overweight... jesus, god help you, you fat bastards... and once again, i blame Ultra.
Tony Pine Posted 17 February 2010 Posted 17 February 2010 don't we have a high cancer risk, heart and lung problems because of the geography of leicester. too. death city
MC Prussian Posted 17 February 2010 Posted 17 February 2010 Wonder if that newly-elected major would use "Welcome to Death City" as a city slogan. Either that or "We'll tear you down gentily".
Guest Posted 17 February 2010 Posted 17 February 2010 I saw the report saying the East Midlands was the fattest region, just days after Nottingham welcomed it's 4,562nd Greggs.
Guest Basildon Fox Posted 17 February 2010 Posted 17 February 2010 How apt it is that Leicestershire is home of the pie too. No wonder Pukka Pies is bucking the trend of recession with all you lard arses there.

Edmund Posted 17 February 2010 Posted 17 February 2010 The thing is you have to take bmi readings with a pinch of salt. Highly inaccurate. Last time I did one of those bmi checks I was classed as obese even though I'm not fat What it doesn't take into account is wether you work out or not. The extra muscle you build gets written off as fat which means most professional sportsmen are in the overweight/obese category when they partake in a bmi reading rendering it useless.

Blimey, this is a first.
