I think that L1 prooved that as a block they can't be trusted to stand up at the Leeds game. Its a shame as I am sure 99% of the fans in there just wanto to stand up and get behinf the lads but whilst there are still fans that go to grounds with the sole intention of winding up the opposition supporters then there is no scope for standing.

People died because of charging at football matches, can anyone honestly tell me they don't think there some stupid chavs that might think it is a good idea to start one at the Walkers? Thats not a risk I would be willing to make as a club official.

If you want standing in L1 sort out the minority of thugs and wannaba hooligans.

Doesn't matter what any of us think at this stage.

There has to be a campaign to persuade politicians its the right thing to do.

That has to be done at National level with Stand Up,Sit Down leading the way.

Wouldn't hurt doing your own lobbying by writing to your MP though.

Locally the main battle is with our Safety Advisory Group who are the hardliners in the country & very difficult to sway from the strictest interpretation of the law.

If you're referring to Hillsborough, then it wasn't standing which caused that horrific accident - It was the policing.

Standing is safe, providing it is managed in the right way. Terracing sections would reguarly be overcrowded in the past, and that was the cause of the problem.

Terracing is still in existence in the lower divisions - And you don't hear of any problems.

A small section or sections of terracing wouldn't be any more dangerous than standing. In fact, celebrating a goal by standing up and jumping about is more dangerous with seats around as you're more likely to get injured.

The sad reality of the situation is that we'll never have a return to standing.

Point 1 - Too true, a very sensible post and the reason the SAG is so stringent in their application of the laws.

Point 2 - Yes the Police must share a portion of the blame, but so do the ticketless Liverpool fans who were trying to gain access to the ground and the FA for being thick. Differing degrees of blame but it wasn't totally the Police.

Yes, there should be a standing area in the ground. Possibly a larger block than L1

The standing area in L1 is actually called The Concourse

The people that stand up in L1 are nothing but idiotic yobs, trying to look hard when in actual fact you look like a bunch of twats.

I sit there looking at you guys shaking my head in embarresment as the away fans take the piss out of you.

Get a life, sit down and support the club the proper way.

Nobs!

If you want to look hard then try boxing professionally rather than stand up and just piss off some steward that is trying to earn a crust.

Standing should be allowed in proper standing areas with proper well behaved fans, rather than the Chavs and general idiots in L1 (Sorry if I am including general sensible well behaved people in here, dont mean you) who are an embarassment to the club and can see why the away fans rip the pee out of them. We will never get standing at the walkers, as the government is strongly against & has set a precidence for every new stadium that it should be all seater in the higher leagues as seating is safer. Why they dont get the away fans to sit down is beyond me and this issue needs sorting!

I personally find it bloody annoying when people in front of me in L1 are up and down like yo-yos having said that it was a sad day when terracing was irradicated. I am slowly coming to terms with the fact that standing at football grounds will never come back and I would back any move to bring it back in some capacity- thats why these lower league grounds like the McCain etc are so fantastic because its a return to how football used to be. I do, however, appreciate the safety aspect but if we were able to stand in some specialised, well monitored area then surely theres no harm in that.

You're right, it wasn't totally the police's fault, I worded that wrong. What I meant to say was that the police were largely responsible, but there was also other factors that you've highlighted which shouldn't be dismissed.
