Smudge Posted 1 April 2010 Posted 1 April 2010 We have two elderly friends who live near Leicester, we have been mates for 41 years. I wanted he and his wife to come over and visit us this summer and arranged the tickets for them. Having contacted several insurance companies, the premiums for three weeks range from £1100 - £3000 and even one company denied them coverage. Granted they are in their 70's and my mate has had a few health issues but none that are not under control. It seems to me that premiums paid should average the cost of insuring the traveling public, not penalizing seniors for living too long. The last time they came, three years ago, the cost was £400 which was manageable. Anyone in the insurance business who could offer some advise would be much appreciated. Right now it looks like they'll have to cancel the trip.
AoWW Posted 1 April 2010 Posted 1 April 2010 You've probably tried them, but have you contacted SAGA? My grandad, who's in his late 80s with numerous medical conditions, has got insurance through them when he's travelled. I don't think he's paid anything like the amounts you're quoting.
AmericanScott Posted 1 April 2010 Posted 1 April 2010 My girlfriend's grandad is off to Oz next week and he has a false leg, in a wheelchair and quite old. Rang a few places and had crazy quotes thrown at him. Finally, he found a decent price with Age Concern. It ended up being something like £100.

The big issue is coming to the US, as health cover is sooo expensive.

hairy Posted 3 April 2010 Posted 3 April 2010 Try Age Concern. I am with them and they have paid in the two instances we have made a claim. They were the only insurance company who would insure my mum to travel with terminal cancer.
