posh_bird Posted 18 May 2005 Posted 18 May 2005 I think Leicester have missed out big time on this guy, he works his ass off and no he HAS NOT had a chance to prove himself. CL unfairly never gave him a shot at the first team. ( even when the agreement was that if he played the academy game against Southampton he would get a shot with the first team in plymouth) No wonder Steve feels unwanted and I dont blame him for going, the final insult was a pathetic wage. I dont understand, he was good enough to captain the reserve side every time i've seen him play but not good enough for the firsts? And no he didn't want to leave Leicester but who wouldn't after that? I wish him luck at his new club and I hope that he is appreciated there. See ya later Daws.
TrickyTrev Posted 18 May 2005 Posted 18 May 2005 Given Wilcox's' previous injury problems, lets hope he is on some sort of 'pay as you play' deal, otherwise we won't be getting much value for money.I can see the argument re: mentoring for the younger players, and that could be useful. However, I just don't want to see him on the left on a regular basis. A winger with no pace or the ability to go past players. Maybe 10 years ago, not now. Squad player at best, I hope... 110600 Wilcox can play left back as well as left wing and I actually think he played well for us when he wasn't injured. There is lots of sense in a pay as you play deal for him, it won't cost us much and we have a potentially quality player on our hands for peanuts! As for Dawson, I have never seen him play. I am however wary of hype over youth team players. I remmeber people talking about Tommy Wright as an England player and from what I ahve sen of him he will make a career in League one or two at best. Some people are saying O'Grady has played really wellf or the reserves, like Dawson, and he couldn't even get in the Notts County team and when he has been in the first team he has looked like a nothing player. Craig Levein has seen a lot more young players than me or you and I trust his judgement on who is going to make it far more than I do Hoof's or Petrescu's. 110716 That is extremely debatable to say the least. 110719 Indeed. A liability at left back, and doesn't offer much going forward when pushed further up the pitch. He's another year older after another serious injury - It's not encouraging. 110805 If he gets injured then I doubt we will be paying him anything. It has to be a pay as you play deal. We have an extremely small squad and having experienced and versitle players who are not costing us anything would be extremely useful. If we were to let him go we would have to buy another reserve left winger and I don't think we can afford to pay serious money to a second choice. You say he doesn't offer much going forward but I think he played well for us before his injury, I don't see why he can't reproduce that form if called upon and I am certain we wouldn't get a playter of similar quality and similarly low demands.

Ric Flair Posted 18 May 2005 Posted 18 May 2005 I find the decision to offer Wilcox another contract baffling, whatever the terms are. He hasn't been properly fit since about 1999 and considering we've had to let some players go only because of 'financial reasons' you'd think he'd be the first to go to try and put a contract together for one of the players that left. If it's experience they are looking for behind the scenes then offer him a coaching role, but not a playing one surely. I'm not overly bothered about Wilcox staying as he looked avergae when he played last season, but I just find it pointless given what's gone on with other players leaving and our so called 'reduced wage bill'.
