Dawson leaves

If he doesn't want to sign for us, good riddance. There is no point paying a reserve/fringe player the same as the first teamers, no matter how good he supposedly is. Clearly his agent has been in his ear telling him he's better than he is and should be on better money. At 19 he should still have enough passion for the game, and enough need to prove himself that he should take whatever is offered (which might be a 'reduced' contract but will still be more than a lot of us earn a week). Seeing as he hasn't his heart is obviously not at the club and so I don't care that he's gone.

We expected Hirschfeld to go too so that's no surprise. I'm not sure about that statement about Wilcox, although it could just be lazy journalism (of the like we usually see on the OS) and he might just not have been called into the office to be given his marching orders yet.

On the flip side of that though is, perhaps he feels he's not wanted at Leicester. I mean, reduced wages, not a single appearance in the first team, it doesn't bode well. Fair play to him, he's ambitious and obviously feels harshly treated. I can see it from both points of the argument, the club can't really use his wages as an excuse. Either they don't rate him highly or Levein wants the extra £200 a week or whatever he's saving to give Douglas a back hander in signing.

Or maybe it was never in Dawson's mind to accept a new contract anyway and he wanted away. I can't see how anyone can see it as 'poor little Dawson', as things stand he is a nobody in football and how he thinks he's in the position to demand better wages is beyond me. Maybe he is the next Keane or something, but at the moment he's not exactly showing the signs of becoming a good professional, millions of people would like to be in his position. So maybe he's got a few offers from bigger clubs on the table and that's why he's going, but then it could hardly be Levein's fault.

I've not read through this yet, but i have to say, i was so impressed with Levein, but with this nonsense going on i'm sad to say i dislike him more than like now. JASON WILCOX **** OFF.

Dawson for Ireland.

I'll have a few quid with you that he signs for a lower league team. He has obviously realised he isn't going to get a look in at this club with the contract length and wage he's been offered so probably think's it's more suited for him to seek first team football. That's shrewd in my book, Levein has made it quite obvious that Dawson has got 'alot' to do to make it at Leicester and if Dawson feels he's thrown everything at it since he's been here and still not got anywhere perhaps he feels it's time to move on.

I'm a poor student, I couldn't afford that :o As for Levein making it obvious that Dawson has 'a lot' to do, I think if he really thought that he wouldn't have offered him the contract in the first place. We've seen with the likes of Heath, Wright, Canero etc that he's not afraid to be brutally honest.

Jason Wilcox? Must be a joke, surely?

109942

Well I don't usually say I told you so, but I told you so! Maybe a stroke of insanity or maybe Jason could do the business, frankly I'm not too thrilled by the news, but, Levein is the manager and he's the one who makes the decisions!

I'm gutted about Stevie Dawson, but that's the lad's decision, good luck to him!

I guess the reason Wilcox has been offered a new contract is to have another experienced head around the place. I assume the contract offered would have been considerably less compared to what would have been offered to one of our other mature departees, simply because Wilcox has just returned from long-term injury and wouldn't expect any other club to come in for him.

Looking at our squad, two or three players with experience would seem a useful asset, even if they're just around for training.

Meanwhile contract discussions with former England internationals Dion Dublin and Jason Wilcox are continuing.

I should imagine Dublin will stay but Wilcox ?? Please

CL obviously knows what he is doing over the Dawson saga - hoof your getting a little emotional - get your chin up lad ! He has never played for us so in theory how can we miss him ?

The way he played for the Reserve team this season, meant he deserved a chance. Of course we won't miss him, we'll just never get to see what he could have been here if he was given that one chance towards the end of the season. I fail to see how Levein can turn a blind eye towards his performances, i can't understand this. I'll be following him for the next few years to see how his career develops, as i honestly thought he looked like a young Roy Keane.

After watching him on a number of occasions, I believed he had the potential to become a very good player for us.

Unfortunately, that won't be the case, and we have to accept that. It was Dawson's decision at the end of it all, although as I've said, it is a little baffling that he was offered reduced terms.

I hope he does well, and I believe he will. He has all the attributes to become an all round midfielder. I can see him starting in L1 or L2 as Shummy said, and working his way back up again.

I'm glad this didn't happen in Mickey's time.

Doo doo doo doo doo......... I'm lovin it.

Could you imagine if it had... his house would of been fire bombed.

I'm no fan of Wilcox and would much prefer a young, quick and skilful winger to be playing. But if he's on much reduced terms, which I suspect he is, it can't harm to have a player of that experience around to help the youngers out. I somehow doubt he'll be a regular first team player or at least I hope that's the case.

I couldn't care if this happened in Micky's time or not, I think this is disgraceful.

I completely agree with Hoof here. To offer Dawson reduced terms is an insult, it really is. I bet he was earning peanuts as it was, and when he saw players around him like Gemmill, Wilcox, Blake, Morris earning more than him doing **** all for the club, it must have made him sick.

I admire his decision to leave, I respect him for doing so. It shows he is not going to take a crap offer just to stay here and he believes he deserves a chance to prove himself. People say his heart isn't in the club, but why should it be when he has been here 4 years and now the club isn't even going to match his wages for this new contract?

And if Levein thinks Wilcox is capable of another season with us he is sadly mistaken. Wilcox should have been shipped out with Walker, Nalis and co. This is beyond a joke.

For Levein's sake, I hope Kisnorbo is as good as he thinks he is...because if he's not Levein has just dug himself into a hole.

As Hoof has also mentioned, this gives Wesolowski the opportunity to step into the breach. He's arguably a bigger talent than Dawson from what I gather, so maybe this could be a blessing in disguise :ermm:

I wish Dawson the best of luck wherever he goes. He sounded like a hard worker, and those always deserve some kind of success...

I think a bit of perspective is needed. It really is beyond why a number of posters are turning on or threatening to turn on Levein because an unproven kid has rejected a contract offer.

I'm sorry to say that his performances in the reserves do not mean he can make the step up, as happens with so many promising youngsters. Where are Steff Oakes, Stuart Campbell and Stuart Wilson now - all once promising young midfielders.

I assume the hysteria is due to it being the end of the season and we can't all moan about the performances.

If the manager doesn't rate him then so be it.... it's bloody tommy wright syndrome all over again.

110141

Exactly.

I can't believe all this hype over one unproven player.

I really do wish him all the best, and it would be nice to see him prove CL and other people like me wrong - just so he can say "Up Yours" - Can't see it though.

He might be unproven, but he has proven himself worthy of at least a chance with his performances in the reserves (as other posters have noted).

An unproven youngster in Dawson has left while a proven 'has-been' in Wilcox is offered a new contract (probably on more money than Dawson would have been on even with a pay rise). That's what makes me annoyed.

Fair enough comment but I guess Levein's thinking with Wilcox is that we're a bit short on old heads, plus he would have been able to offer him reduced terms due to his long injury absence.

What you all seemto be ignoring is there is no loyalty in football whatsoever, the Club won't show the player any and the players certainly don't show the Club or the fans any. That's the modern day game.

After reflecting on the news and reading many peoples thoughts on here we seem to be forgetting on thing................ Levein has got rid of 8/9 players who he couldn't justify a salary to or just were not good enough. Those who were being offered new deals have been done so at a reduced rate, therefore, why should an unproven midfielder be made an exception? The manager has to be fair across the board.

Also on the Jason Wilcox thing, I am sure Rob Kelly will be playing a big role in this alleged retention. Blackburn connection and all that and CL has to listen to his staff otherwise there is no point in having them. Personally I'm not that chuffed by the thought of him staying on, but it is tempered by the fact CL is using his team as he has to.

Posted

The fact of the matter is that we don't know what was offered to Dawson, what he was receiving with his previous contract, what his motives were for not signing, if he wanted to leave anyway or whether he had been offered a better contract by another club or.... etc etc, you get the point.

So, I think it's a bit premature for some people to be slating CL or the club - wait until we have the facts then we can post informed comments instead of reactionary rants.

I thank you... :P
