Dawson leaves

I can't beleive some of you are all turning on Levein! Literally a few weeks ago he was doing a 'great' job and you were all so confident in him. Yet again - Unbelievable!

Flip-flop, Flip-flop...

Yes, FNQ does make a decent point. There does seem to be a slight overreaction to a player who was not made one first-team appearance.

The only hole Dawson's leaving has left is the one in our reserve team, which we will now have to fill.

He may well turn out to be a good player. Either way, he was offered a contract at a wage that was deemed appropriate. The wage offered may well have been lower than he currently gets, but it was only a year contract and so would have been up for renewal at the end of next season, whereby the opportunity would exist to start talking more money if appropriate.

Come on lets give Wilcox a chance as we don't really seen him a lot as he is out for long time and we need a right sided winger now Wilcox can fill that role with quilaty crosses

What are you talking about?

Wilcox is not a right winger, never was and never will be.

I have to agree.

This feels like the first time you have a major bust up with your girlfriend and you feel like the world is ending. Me and Craig have had our first falling out, the way i'm feeling right now he can bollocks. I'm sure he knows what he's doing, but this is a ****ing disgrace. People might say that it was Dawson's decision to leave the club but let me tell you a few things.

1) Dawson's deal that recently expired was the original deal he signed when he first came to the club, meaning he was on a very, very small wage. One of those 3 year scholar's which I would imagine was no more than a few hundred quid a week. Now to offer the lad even less at 19, well as you can imagine. He'd be better off on the grill at match days serving balti pie's.

2) Levein hasn't given Dawson a sniff, he could of atleast gave him 10 mins against Plymouth. Another reason why Dawson perhaps feels like he's being patronised.

3) A one year deal aswell, after everything Levein has said about wanting to reward players with bigger contracts. Well I bet that has made Dawson feel wanted.

You lot can all say i'm going over the top and I expect nothing else from the people that have never seen this lad play. But this is wrong, the biggest outcry since Diedre was put in prison. You'll all agree with me when you see him playing top level football in 3 years time. I hope he goes on to give Levein nightmares and shit's in his beer after the match to really rub it in.

Craig.........you've made a mistake.

Apart from 1 or 2 you would think Academy players would look at Dawson and think is this for me.Do LCFC want me as much as I wanted to play for them.

Or maybe it was never in Dawson's mind to accept a new contract anyway and he wanted away. I can't see how anyone can see it as 'poor little Dawson', as things stand he is a nobody in football and how he thinks he's in the position to demand better wages is beyond me. Maybe he is the next Keane or something, but at the moment he's not exactly showing the signs of becoming a good professional, millions of people would like to be in his position. So maybe he's got a few offers from bigger clubs on the table and that's why he's going, but then it could hardly be Levein's fault.

110073

I'll have a few quid with you that he signs for a lower league team. He has obviously realised he isn't going to get a look in at this club with the contract length and wage he's been offered so probably think's it's more suited for him to seek first team football. That's shrewd in my book, Levein has made it quite obvious that Dawson has got 'alot' to do to make it at Leicester and if Dawson feels he's thrown everything at it since he's been here and still not got anywhere perhaps he feels it's time to move on.

110078

I'm a poor student, I couldn't afford that :o As for Levein making it obvious that Dawson has 'a lot' to do, I think if he really thought that he wouldn't have offered him the contract in the first place. We've seen with the likes of Heath, Wright, Canero etc that he's not afraid to be brutally honest.

110080

If Dawson has a lot to do according to CL then at that Foxes Trust Open Night Dawson,Sheehan n Steerman were the only Juniors worthy of praise. Looks to me like Porter,Wesolowski n Dodds are up the shit then.Show me the way outta here....

I think the point with Sheehan and Stearman is that they're tied to contracts and are near the first team. The other three might not be YET but he doesnt want to start alerting big teams to our major talents, particularly Wesolowski- otherwise we're going to end up like West Ham with every Premiership team pinching our best young stars.

Im sure Porter n Wesolowski are tied to contracts to for maybe another two seasons .A bit of praise and encoragement publicly wouldnt hurt and might endear a bit of Club loyalty. They wont feel like outsiders like Dawson may have sitting on the bench .Does this club really want me??

If hes got any sense Levein will have spoken to these players privately, or at least had one of his assistants speak to them.

To be honest I think the whole 'not praising youngsters because he doesn't want to alert the big clubs' argument is laughable.

Levein will praise youngsters as he has done with Stearman and Sheehan. In my mind I don't think he rates any of the others and I have to agree with Vo Rogue. Levein is an honest fella, and if he fails to mention certain players it doesn't bode too well.

I do however wish to be proven wrong.

It doesn't say Levein's offered Wilcox a contract. It says he's in contract discussions with him. He had contract discussions with Blake and Gemmill but at no time was a new contract offered. Sorry if someone's already said this but I only got past the second page and it seemed like everyone was saying 'why has Wilcox been offered a contract?'

If he's still in discussions with him surely it wouldn't take this long to tell Wilcox "Sorry Jason, you're surplus to requirements, I can't offer a new contract."

Simple.

There seems to be actual discussions going on, otherwise it would be fairly straightforward like all the other players that were promptly released.

Maybe CL is stalling on telling Wilcox about his future at the club untill he gets some one in to cover the LW position. Just calm down and stop panicking. Wait to see what happens.

Posted

Maybe a coaching / player role? Who knows.

Lets just wait until we hear something official.

Posted

I'm telling you, Wilcox has definately been offered a 12month contract on reduced terms! Whether that's with view to some kind of mentoring role also or just as back up, or even a replacement for Tiatto I don't know!

Posted

Given Wilcox's' previous injury problems, lets hope he is on some sort of 'pay as you play' deal, otherwise we won't be getting much value for money.

I can see the argument re: mentoring for the younger players, and that could be useful. However, I just don't want to see him on the left on a regular basis. A winger with no pace or the ability to go past players. Maybe 10 years ago, not now.

Squad player at best, I hope...

If Wilcox has been offered a contract on an appropriate wage that reflects his ability, then I can’t see what the fuss is about. He is a back up and if he is cheap then all well and good.

As for the Dawson saga, if city are letting a youngster with his potential leave because of money, then financially things at city must be a lot worst than we anticipate.

I am sure CL would love to keep every player at the club, but he obviously has financial constraints that restrict this. I just did not realise that city was this hard up.

Wilcox can play left back as well as left wing and I actually think he played well for us when he wasn't injured. There is lots of sense in a pay as you play deal for him, it won't cost us much and we have a potentially quality player on our hands for peanuts!

As for Dawson, I have never seen him play. I am however wary of hype over youth team players. I remmeber people talking about Tommy Wright as an England player and from what I ahve sen of him he will make a career in League one or two at best. Some people are saying O'Grady has played really wellf or the reserves, like Dawson, and he couldn't even get in the Notts County team and when he has been in the first team he has looked like a nothing player.

Craig Levein has seen a lot more young players than me or you and I trust his judgement on who is going to make it far more than I do Hoof's or Petrescu's.

That is extremely debatable to say the least.

Indeed.

A liability at left back, and doesn't offer much going forward when pushed further up the pitch.

He's another year older after another serious injury - It's not encouraging.
