Tabou Posted 17 June 2010 Posted 17 June 2010 After watching the Stella Artois advert one too many a time, I have decided to drive to, and then explore France this year. Does anybody have any suggestions? I want to see proper France, and not the Tourist-y side, and have already done the Alps on countless occassions Skiing. I'm hoping for little French towns and wine tasting etc. Thanks!
dandannieldanok Posted 17 June 2010 Posted 17 June 2010 Pyrenees, although yes it is a bit touristy is far less touristy than the Alps, and although mountain ranges can't obviously differ too much, I personally think the scenery is and the towns and villages are more picturesque and slightly less rugged. Also the Champagne region if you're heading down the Eastern side of France, again a bit obvious but plenty of nice untouched areas.
Guest Posted 17 June 2010 Posted 17 June 2010 If you like mountains and don't want people you should really go to the Massif Central. A relatively untouched area. Everywhere grows wine so look at a map of France and pick a region that you didn't know the name of. South of France is packed with tourists in the summer as are the coastal regions - even my quiet spot is busy in August.
Zingari Posted 17 June 2010 Posted 17 June 2010 wait for it to dry up a bit i'd love to go over that bridge in the clouds ( Millau Bridge )
MC Prussian Posted 17 June 2010 Posted 17 June 2010 Might be a bit of an obvious call, but try the Provence in late Summer. I'd recommend the Vaucluse or Gard regions with Avignon, Orange, Alès, Uzès and of course the good old Châteauneuf-du-Pape à visiter. Nîmes ain't bad, either.
Daggers Posted 21 June 2010 Posted 21 June 2010 Take the tunnel and coast into Belgium just so you can leave it again and enter France through the Ardennes. Avoid Le Peage like the plague - you can get free maps showing the lovely free routes through the country. Me? I like Tours as a city.
Rocket-Ron Posted 22 June 2010 Posted 22 June 2010 Get yourself down to Frejus or San Raphael. beutifiul around there. And only a short hop to Nice, Which is "How you say" Nice in Nice
