Fosse Fox Posted 17 June 2010 Posted 17 June 2010 A great tournament for Latin America so far. Only Honduras have registered a loss and that was to Chile. Even the oldest blue blooded aristorcrats of world football are looking useful (and if you don't know who I am referring to here you can get the fook off this board). Be interesting to see how long some of these sides can continue to outperform. One partial explanation for their success could be that they are used to playing regularly at altitude (Mexico City, Quito, La Paz etc) even if its mainly on an away basis. Makes me wonder how much use all that shagging about in the Atlas Mountains and The Julian Alps will be to those minnows in Group C that so many tipped us to breeze past...

To be fair, i don't even think the papers called the USA a easy game for us. A draw was hardly the end of the world against a team that beat Spain and went 2-0 up against Brasil. Also what Latin American country have played a decent side yet ? Don't give me France because they're not a decent side anymore. Also forgot to add, Chile haven't won a game in the world cup since 1962 ...

And, no doubt, don't give you Italy either as they are only the current World Champions
martyn Posted 18 June 2010 Posted 18 June 2010 Chile have their best side since Salas/Zamorano et al, Uruguay haven't had this much talent going forward in some time, whilst Mexico are enjoying a self proclaimed "golden generation" right now. I doubt the altitude is playing a huge part, they are just good sides.
CosbehFox Posted 19 June 2010 Posted 19 June 2010 I don't think there's any secret to it. They just currently possess better technical players than the Europeans.
