Collymore Posted 19 May 2005 Posted 19 May 2005 For every one grain of sand on the earth there are 100 stars in the universe
Guest freund Posted 19 May 2005 Posted 19 May 2005 if the universe was inifnite then there would be an infinite number of planets per grain of sand

Guest freund Posted 19 May 2005 Posted 19 May 2005 the universe is expanding all the time 111558[/snapback] do you reckon? your opinion of yourself seems to be expanding inifinitely, thats for sure

Collymore Posted 19 May 2005 Author Posted 19 May 2005 If the universe was infinite then there would be some one exactly the same as you on another planet doing exactly the same thing as your doing now. On another planet there would be another person the same as you but he might have an extra hair. Everything you can think of becomes possible because of the infinity. Mind blowing : S

In an infinite universe anything you can think of will have happened and more. I believe that the universe is only so big because our brains (which is only electrical signals) tells us it is, to another brain the universe could be portrayed as a millimetre wide. To another brain it might not even exist. If we didn't have radios would you have believed there were voices travelling around in the air? The radio receiver is just a peripheral to our brains. Lots of shits going on we don't know about cause our brains can't comprehend it. If we were born with the Sky being red and frogs falling down instead of rain we would have all accepted that, and rain and it being blue would have been just as crazy as the latter

TrickyTrev Posted 19 May 2005 Posted 19 May 2005 The univirise isn't infinate as in it goes on forever, it just has the possibility to do so. The univirise is expanding still as a reaction to the big bang, once this reaction has stopped one or two things could happen. The gravatational pull of the centre of the univiirse could begin to suck everything back together and the univirse will deflate and there will be a 'big crunch'. Sounds painful. If the gravatational pull is not strong enough to do this then the continue will continue to expand FOREVER and thus you would have the scenario of infinate probability. Thats my understanding of it anyway! I am not sure the scientists know themselves, its all guess work.

Collymore Posted 20 May 2005 Author Posted 20 May 2005 The Earth is rotating on its axis at a rate of 460 metres per second at the equator, and is orbiting the sun at a rate of about 30 kilometres per second. The sun is orbiting the centre of the Milky Way at a rate of about 220 kilometres per second. The Milky Way is moving at a speed of about 1000 kilometres per second towards a region of space 150 million light years away called the Great Attractor. Thats some serious movement
