Youth team beat Palace 6-2

just seen on SSN don't know any other details

Anyone got any news on this game yet? Still nothing on the OS....

I might be naive but I can't help thinking we should get Jorrin John into the squad soon - we have produced some very good Championship level players from our youth team in recent years and he was the stand out player from the academy side that went unbeaten all season in 2009-10. Apparently he has been sharp for both academy and in the reserves friendlies this season - give the lad a chance.

Jorrin John, Tom Parkes and Jeffrey Schlupp would benefit massively if we had a regular reserve side, hopefully the new owners will bring 1 back next season

The goalscorers in the game were Matt Robinson 3, Nathan Hicks 2 (both penalties) and an own goal. Very good game from all the team. Schlupp won both penalties and set up the own goal and the hat-trick from Robinson came in his 1st start for the 18's. Hopper looks a very strong target man and Liam Moore got sent off for a hard tackle that gave the ref the chance to even up the numbers as their keeper was sent off for the foul on Schlupp when he was clean through.

Did Jorrin John play? If so how did he get on?

No John didn't play as they try and share the game time with the other 1st year pros - the team was Gill, Sesay, Taft, Moore, Bolger, Tebbutt, Robinson, Hicks, Schlupp, Hopper, Chamberlain - with Brown, Jones and an under 16 midfielder as subs

Fantastic, thanks - are there any other players to look out for (other than Sclupp, Chamberlain, Parkes etc? You seem to watch most of the games it'd be great if you could post a regular report on the games? The OS is so inconsistent with reporting on the academy....

I think the youth team has good players in most positions so it would be hard to say who is going to make it or not. The defence is solid and Taft and Moore are both big strong players who make good targets at set pieces and Taft is shining in his newish position of Left Back. In the midfield Warburton looks a good solid signing from Watford, Bryne seems to be growing in confidence and the younger players haven't really had a chance to shine yet. Hopper looks like he will grow into a big strong target man. Both young keepers Gill, a 2nd year, and Brennan, the 1st year, should get more playing time this year and a chance to prove themselves. Norburn and Tebbutt should also play more this year in the midfield and with Schlupp as an outlet I don't think they will struggle to score.

I'll try and post the result as soon after the game as possible but I thought that Fez was going to try and do more comprehensive reports on the OS so wouldn't want to tread on any toes.

yeah but the 1st team had an early KO too so he'd of been there, but you'd still think SOMEONE at the club would of done a report
