mancunianfox Posted 4 October 2010 Posted 4 October 2010 so you dont think any footballers do any basic jogging/physical exercise at all during the summer break? I don't think I said that any point. All I said was that I suspect that football clubs like to monitor all of their players physical activity and probably don't appreciate players going off and doing things on their own or hiring outside help. I didn't say that this was true or that I agree with that, but suggesting it as a possibility due to how modern football appears to work.
jonw88 Posted 4 October 2010 Posted 4 October 2010 If anyone remembers the warning about Sousa from the Swansea fans, how some of the players didn't think they were fit enough and would try and do some extra fitness work but Sousa wouldn't allow it. The whole preseason training was wrong from Sousa, we should have worked on basic fitness levels first (like we always do) and then get into the football, rather than whipping the balls out on the first day and doing bugger all on fitness. I think the scrapping of the Sport Science team is also one of the failings of the Sousa regime, we were doing some quality stuff behind the scenes I believe before working closely with Loughborough Uni, so I hope Sven and his team can bring that back and get us fit again.
Fox92 Posted 4 October 2010 Posted 4 October 2010 I think this was one of Sousa's downfalls at the club. We have been saying that the players don't look fit enough for weeks and there have been a number of examples. Look at how Mackie went around Morrison for the second QPR goal, look at Kings control on Saturday when the ball bounced off his leg due to his fitness. And Wellens confirmed this on Saturday at the post-match interview. One of Sven's first objectives is to get the players fit. Worst manager since Ian Holloway! maybe worse There was only Pearson in between Holloway and Sousa, wasn't there?

It was Swansea's captain Garry Monk who said that in an interview with the BBC. Thread here: http://www.foxestalk.co.uk/forums/index.php?showtopic=67118&st=0 Given the source of these comments and the post match comments of both Berner and Wellens I don't think anyone could be blamed for putting two and two together to find a reason as to why he lost the dressing room.

Thread here: http://www.foxestalk.co.uk/forums/index.php?showtopic=67118&st=0 Thanks for posting the link, I remember seeing a thread about it a while ago. I wonder if in the next few weeks we'll be seeing some of the players come out from the shadows and talk about what was going wrong, if there were any fallouts with Sousa over training etc. and why the mood around the place was so bad. Will certainly be interesting!

Will certainly be interesting! Your post jogged my mind so I tried to find the post. I thought it was made by a fan, so I was surprised to see the comments were made by Monk. For me that would explain the friction between coaches and players and the reason why he alledgedly lost the dressing room. I would imagine that would be quite frustrating.
Mack Posted 17 October 2010 Author Posted 17 October 2010 As feared one of the biggest battles for Sven will be trying to get the squad fit enough to produce a performance for the whole 90 minutes. Sousa.... What were you doing????????????
