Mack Posted 4 October 2010 Posted 4 October 2010 There's been a lot of rumours flying around this forum mainly from Swans fans saying that Sousa's training methods left the squad unfit. Anyone who saw Saturday's game would realise that what was rumour is actually fact. We were a strong pacey overpowering force in the first half, but by the time the hour mark had come and gone we looked very leggy. King was getting up and struggling to get back, he was not alone. The superior fitness of S****horpe really put us through the ringer for the last half hour. I am gobsmacked that any professional football coach or manager would leave his players so ill equipped to do their job on the pitch. Thank god we have this break now and Sven can work on getting the squad up to the required fitness levels.

An interview with Wellens after Saturday's game even had him saying "we weren't fit enough for the 90 minutes".

Said the team were unable to press in the 2nd half as they had in the 1st due to a lack of fitness. Also mentioned how much he respected Powell and Stowell in a way that suggested he had none for Sousa
Mack Posted 4 October 2010 Author Posted 4 October 2010 I think this could be the most shocking and potentially damaging legacy of Sousa's short tenure. Hoe he ever thought a team could execute his instructions half fit is beyond me.
jimmer Posted 4 October 2010 Posted 4 October 2010 This was always my biggest concern and unfortunately very true. This alone could threaten our season. Svens got a huge task ahead, but i'm kinda confident he willl sort it out
CheshireFox Posted 4 October 2010 Posted 4 October 2010 hopefully Sven will come in and get them running a few more basic training drills, and step up the pace- shame about this ridiculous trip at a time when they should be concentrating on getting the fitness levels sorted in the international break!
cambridgefox Posted 4 October 2010 Posted 4 October 2010 At any level the fitness of the players is key, what you lack in skill you can make up a little in fitness, you dont see the likes of man utd and chelsea blowing out of there ass after 60 mins. This is the time with extra stamina that a close game can be turned into a win.As mentioned in a previous post by mack, this break ,albeit just after a win, could be a blessing in disguise. With a new training regime, new management ,a win, morale should be high.If we can put a little run together those playoff places will be in our grasp and if we are there or thereabouts come January, who knows what might happen!
HonradaRaposa Posted 4 October 2010 Posted 4 October 2010 Trouble is when you go whacking the ball around aimlessly you will get knackered having to run after it and try and win it back. Wellens is a fat talentless malcontent who needs to be fooked out the door sharpish, who if he was able to retain possession would find his fitness levels should be more than adequate. It is also a sad refelection on some of these players professionalism if they declaring themselves unfot in October. This whole sorry Sousa episode has left a lot of people looking foolish from the Top down to the arse of the team.
cambridgefox Posted 4 October 2010 Posted 4 October 2010 Going back to the MON days in the premiership,we had some good players, but not world beaters,i thought a lot of our success was down to a close unit, but our fitness levels were so high,we pushed teams all the way for 90 mins. They could jog to Thailand!
harpendenfox Posted 4 October 2010 Posted 4 October 2010 Fazackerley confirmed as first team coach on Huddersfield's website. I sense this is a good appointment, and he will ensure we are fit and solid as a unit at the back.

I sense this is a good appointment, and he will ensure we are fit and solid as a unit at the back. That is very good news indeed. A top class first team coach to concentrate on the day to day preparation of the team, leaves Sven to concentrate on the 'big picture'. Make sure Powell is heavily involved as an assistant coach, he should be able to learn a lot from both Sven and Derek.

Huddersfield haven't kept a clean sheet in a while, but I guess anything will be an improvement on conceding 10 goals in 2 games.
CelebFox Posted 4 October 2010 Posted 4 October 2010 This fitness thing makes me laugh> Ok, we have no fitness coach. Are our players really that dense, that they can't take it on themselves to get fit. Surely they are on enough money to get a personal fitness trainer. maybe they could just put in that extra bit of effort after training has finsished. Sorry no, they need to get back home to their Xboxes!!

Sorry no, they need to get back home to their Xboxes!! This is what i was thinking. if you are a professional sportsperson of any kind you should be largely responsible for your own fitness. they need to put down the fifa and get down to blockbusters bargain section for some mr.motivator VHS action.
talkfoxes.com Posted 4 October 2010 Posted 4 October 2010 Sousa ruined Leicester he took every apart from Last season's good work & he couldn't get it back together. He style of football at Swansea was shit they'd score one goal then go all defensive. Worst manager since Ian Holloway! maybe worse
Wymsey Posted 4 October 2010 Posted 4 October 2010 Most of the players looked very unfit on Saturday. Especially Ilkme as he could have done a lot more action during that game. Berner also looked warn out. Hope Sven sorts the fitness out when in Thailand.
FoxyPV Posted 4 October 2010 Posted 4 October 2010 I know that if we are not doing enough fitness work at training I'll do it on my own and I'm not paid several if not tens of £K a week. We are not fit enough - True We don't have a fitness coach - BOLLOX - not an excuse!!! Take some responsibility FFS! Pampered overpaid prima donnas!
mancunianfox Posted 4 October 2010 Posted 4 October 2010 At a guess I would imagine that if a professional footballer injured themselves working with a personal trainer outside of the club, who was not suggested or approved by the club they would likely face pretty serious punishment. Who knows, the players may have wanted to do this and fell out with PS about it. We don't really know enough about the situation and can only guess. Don't think its as simple as 'get yourselves fit you lazy b*****ds' though.

Don't think its as simple as 'get yourselves fit you lazy b*****ds' though. you need a personal trainer to say "go jogging today", or say "do high intensity interval training" or say "go to a field and do some sprints" ? i disagree. if i was a player and felt like i was unfit, i would do something about it, in exactly the same way David Beckham used to stay behind to practice free kicks.

Staying behind to practice a technique is a bit different though. I have never seen anyone pick up an injury taking a free kick. My point was that players are wrapped up in cotton wool now that clubs wouldn't be happy about players picking up any injuries outside of matchdays and training.
ozleicester Posted 4 October 2010 Posted 4 October 2010 Didnt believe it when people were saying we werent fit...but we certainly didnt look it on saturday and Wellens seems to have confirmed it. The question is how..how can you be a pro footballer, playing or training 5 days a week and not be fit?

Sorry no, they need to get back home to their Xboxes!! Agreed, I've been appalled at some of the players' application and attitude this season. Yes, Sousa must take a lot of the burden for our poor start to the season, but the players should shoulder some of the responsibility too. Quite frankly, their attitude has stank.
