Eriksson is sharpening the knife for change at Leicester

Let's be fair to them... they are defenders. They should not be winning us matches...

True, but at the same time they shouldn't be costing us matches either by making sloppy mistakes. I personally felt signing a CB should've been the end of our defensive purchasing and we should've looked to have brought in another winger or striker who can play right away (yes Vassel, I'm looking at you), but meh. Howard + Waghorn up top, Lloyd and Moose out wide and King + any one of Oakley, Wellens or Abe in the middle is how we should line up. In my opinion, of course.

When we signed Davies and Naughton I voiced my slight concern that although I can see Sven is rebuilding, there's a fine line when you're virtually replacing a whole starting eleven.

You just can't chop and change a whole team overnight and if you do, you do so with great risk.

The problem with loan players as Neil Warnock points out is that they don't play for the club like players on your books. They generally play in their best interests and not the clubs. Season long loans are preferable if any.

There's also the problem of players getting to know each other.

Although there are concerns I don't think there's any chance of masking the season under Holloway. Sven and DF strike me as people who know what their doing and have faith in their own abilities.

Anything can still happen and there's a long way still to go in the season but I just can't see us reaching the play offs this season with this unsettled side and more players due to come in.

If anything we need to forget promotion, build for next season and have a full pre season under Sven.

Bringing in so many players at once doesn't guarantee that they'll start winning every game does it?

I know Davies and Naughton had good games against Hull, but they didn't propel us to a win did they?

I'm also not saying that we'll stay in the relegation zone. I'm just saying it will take time for players to gel with each other and understand how player plays etc. I'm saying it's not gonna be instant success.

But if you remove the rubbish that has taken us to the bottom 4 and replace it with better players we would have a better chance of success.

Yeah in the long term.

As Edmund Crouchback said,

Success won't happen overnight, and it sure as hell won't happen by taking out 7 or 8 players and bringing in completely new ones.

Best stay with the relegation fodder we've got then.

Maybe Dave we should evaluate whether these players are good enough.

Most of them clearly are not, pandering to them and playing them will keep us at the bottom.

It has mostly been due to Loan players that we got promoted and then to the playoffs last year.

How many prem quality players do we have 5? 6?

I imagine you can get away with a loan-based team in the championship, as the gap between the top and bottom clubs isn't as pronounced as the Prem. SGE probably feels confident that he can grab a playoff spot with a patched up squad, then once he's in the Prem. start building a long-term squad.

Truth is, like you suggest, if you get promoted with with typical championship players, you'll either need to replace quite a few of them over the summer or face the likely result of being relegated straight back down.

Loan players also tend to have a point to prove, they want a permanent spot in a good side.

Yeah.

That's exactly what I'm saying.

:giggle:

People read what they want to read.

What Geordie should have said was, "The relegation fodder that was a hair's breadth from a play-off final last season."

i think two things we need to remember are:

1. we have been short of a full squad for sometime now &

2. we have an awful lot of deadwood in the squad, players that are never going to get us promoted.

it is no surprise that we have had to rely on loan signings, sven has been told he can have better players and as he can't buy any until january, of course they are loanees - unlike the situation with pearson, i believe that this is just a stop gap until the TF window, at which point sven will start to add some permanent players to the squad.

we have to get used to the idea that gone are the old days of leiecster, we have entered into a new era, we are now a global corporation like west ham, liverpool, probably most of the prem in fact - we have taken a leap forward and we no longer need to rely on the sort of bargain players we could attract a few years, even a few months back.

players like wellens & dyer are good enough players, but if sven knows he can have players who are better then, of course, they are going to be dropped or sold. we've already seen that neilsen started great under sousa, but sven was able to get naughton, he's a better player and went straight into the team.

it's just a shame they didn't get eriksson when they got sousa, as we could have adapted a lot more naturally and not have to try to make this drastic change in the playing staff during the season , and outside the TF window.

Don't forget injuries. At Man City, eleven new players wasn't enought to keep the moment going when a lot of players were injuried.

He had a reserve team to play after February.

Let's be honest, this is mainly speculation. We don't know that he wants to completely overhaul the squad and we don't know if that'd work or not. I personally think it could be disasterous if we did dramatically overhaul the club but let's wait and see.
