broughtonblue Posted 21 November 2010 Posted 21 November 2010 Mail on Sunday today:- arsenal will make history in the new year by becoming the first club to charge over £100 pounds for an 'ordinary' seat. For cat 'a' games the most expensive normal seat in the centre of the upper tier at the emirates at present is £94 + £2.30 booking fee + £2.20 postage, with the increase in vat in January this will push it over £100. I've moaned about our prices before on this forum but perhaps I should think again!!

The article also said that the cheapest STs in the prem were Blackburn at £225. Fair play to them.

I remember in four four two it said that you could get 90% of a season ticket at Blackburn for the price of the most expensive seat at Arsenal. We were also about 8th in the list of clubs with the most expensive seats.
Sparky Posted 21 November 2010 Posted 21 November 2010 Modern football. Brilliant isn't it? Yep and it aint gonna any better any time soon.
Guest Bilo Posted 21 November 2010 Posted 21 November 2010 Yep and it aint gonna any better any time soon. You're not wrong there mate, part of the problem I'm sorry to say is us fans showing the willingness to pay that sort of money. A few games with a half-filled ground might force the powers-that-be to reassess their approach but it seems that the mentality in this country is to complain about a situation and then blithely accept it.

Yeh its true. All about supply and demand and if they manage to shift those tickets then they wont be coming down.
samjohnson Posted 21 November 2010 Posted 21 November 2010 And yet there were German fans refusing to attend games because general admission tickets topped the £20 equivalent mark... Shocking...
BoneDog Posted 22 November 2010 Posted 22 November 2010 Wow, I never knew prices would be anywhere near that high. I thought they'd be about £10-15 more than at The Walkers. The fans down there must be earning a fair wack to be able to go regular. I'd only be able to do five or six games a season at that price.
Dickie Greenleaf Posted 22 November 2010 Posted 22 November 2010 I read that as well, shocking. I've always wanted to get drawn away at the Emirates now I'm not so sure. You'd only have to pay £35
Tilley Posted 22 November 2010 Posted 22 November 2010 £94 to watch a Champions League QF/SF isn't bad. Spurs was a category A game and that wasn't £94 for the upper tier, it was about £74, so don't believe everything you read.
Dickie Greenleaf Posted 22 November 2010 Posted 22 November 2010 The centre upper was £93. Cat A. Upper ranges from just over £70 to just over £90
Tilley Posted 22 November 2010 Posted 22 November 2010 The centre upper was £93. Cat A. Upper ranges from just over £70 to just over £90 That is general sale, different pricing for Gold, silver, red members.
Guest BlueBrett Posted 22 November 2010 Posted 22 November 2010 The article also said that the cheapest STs in the prem were Blackburn at £225. Fair play to them. Wonder if that will remain the case under the new owners..
Dickie Greenleaf Posted 22 November 2010 Posted 22 November 2010 No mate, Red goes up to £90. plus there aren't different prices for different members, its just Silver obviously snap up the cheaper seats before the last few (which are the most expensive) go on sale to red. No category A game has ever gone on general sale.
Tilley Posted 22 November 2010 Posted 22 November 2010 No mate, Red goes up to £90. I am a member. My tickets for Chelsea on 27th Dec in Upper Centre were £74. It says £94 on the OS but they weren't with my silver membership, red is usually the same as silver. General Sale reach those daft prices though.
Tilley Posted 22 November 2010 Posted 22 November 2010 No category A game has ever gone on general sale. Wrong. Arsenal vs United in 06/07 (Henry last minute header) went to general sale.
Dickie Greenleaf Posted 22 November 2010 Posted 22 November 2010 Right, without wanting to quibble, it sounds like yours are either 'Centre Upper Back' or 'Next to Centre Upper'. The prices dont change becuase of what level member you are, its simply the case that at those prices the cheaper ones will naturally sell out to those with a higher priority membership. Anyhoo, I agree that this is a bit of a non-story, cause its only a minority of seats (in a 60,000 stadium) in a minority of games that could hypothetically go to £100, yet in practice wont, as those fixtures wont go to general sale, and thus wont incur the extra charges accrued from paper tickets.

I have been Spurs, West Ham, Chelsea, Manchester United and countless Champions League knockout games and genuinely never been charged £94. I am sat Upper Centre for Chelsea and paid £74, maybe I got lucky? Even though lower tier is better for atmosphere, particularly at the clock end, just all season ticket holders so unless they have released them onto ticket exchange, you have no chance. When I stood there for Porto, it put the rest of the ground to shame. You'd be surprised, it is so much easier to get tickets this season, pretty much every home game goes to red and every CL group game has gone to general sale. Even Wolves and Everton away went to red and Sunderland to general sale. As they progress into the latter stages of the season and the games become more important, tickets will be like goldust again.
Edmund Posted 22 November 2010 Posted 22 November 2010 I am sat Upper Centre for Chelsea and paid £74, maybe I got lucky? £74 to watch a game of football, lucky?
Tilley Posted 22 November 2010 Posted 22 November 2010 £74 to watch a game of football, lucky? Yes. A game of football between two of the best teams in the world with 22 of the best players in the world on show.
Edmund Posted 22 November 2010 Posted 22 November 2010 Yes. A game of football between two of the best teams in the world with 22 of the best players in the world on show. I just hope for your sake you get your moneys worth and Arsenal win 5-4
Tilley Posted 22 November 2010 Posted 22 November 2010 I just hope for your sake you get your moneys worth and Arsenal win 5-4 I'd take a 1-0 win in which the ball goes in off Bosingwa's arse for an OG.
