New recruit Roman Bednar appears to have made an instant impression at Leicester City – on the training field.

The 27-year-old Czech international confirmed a loan switch to City on Tuesday.

And when he met up with his new team-mates at the Belvoir Drive training ground yesterday he marked his arrival with a wonder goal.

Bednar will be available for Monday night's Championship derby with Nottingham Forest at the Walkers Stadium.

And he has told the club's official website that he chose City ahead of four other clubs because of manager Sven-Goran Eriksson's pedigree.

Bednar said: "There were five clubs who wanted me, but I chose Leicester because Sven is a very good coach and it's easier for me as well because I live in the Midlands. Everything just pointed to joining Leicester.

"I want to be a better player and work and train hard every day. If the manager selects me, I will be pleased with that.

"I always try to score goals, but I am not selfish with the ball.

"Sometimes I need to score for my confidence, but if the team is winning I am happy."

Bednar says he now needs to work on his sharpness, but said he enjoyed his first training session

"I thought I had a good session. I enjoyed it but I am not as sharp as I have been obviously because I haven't played too much lately, but hopefully that will come back.

"If I am selected for the Forest game, it would be a great start for me. As a player you always want to play in derby games. I am sure our supporters will be great on the day."

The former Hearts man will see the opportunity at City as the chance for a new lease of life after falling out of favour at West Brom.

He has made three appearances in the Premier League this season and has been restricted to Carling Cup starts.

City have also confirmed that more than 1,000 additional tickets have already been purchased by season ticket holders for Monday's match through their Family and Friends offer.
