Guest Posted 2 June 2005 Posted 2 June 2005 I can remember standing behind his goal, in the old Pen 2, taking the piss - oops!
gjp Posted 2 June 2005 Posted 2 June 2005 I use to see him on school run most days as my kids use to go same school. Not surprised he’s moved, as his mrs wasn’t happy in the area. Bristol lads say hes a good coach so hopefully he will do well.
surrifox Posted 2 June 2005 Posted 2 June 2005 am I alone in wondering what exactly a goalkeeping coach is for? if it's to bring our keepers up to his standard- God help us. How do you coach goalkeeping anyway?- "Now when that round object comes in this direction do your best to stop it going past those wooden bits and into this string thingy" perhaps ;but there's a limit on how many times you can say that

I'm sure the goalkeeping coach will have some techniques that the goalies will work on to perhaps sharpen up their agility, etc? All hypothetical but I still think you need a specified coach for goalkeeping. Most teams also have a specified coach for shooting aswell.
Jonbluefox9 Posted 2 June 2005 Posted 2 June 2005 Goalkeeping coachs are quite useful really. The keepers at a club would only get half as much work done on the training ground without one because they'd have to take it in turns at doing the kicking. They also pass on their experiences to the young keepers because quite often they'll train the academy keepers too. Also, you have to remember that the keepers spend very little time with the rest of the team at the training ground. They sometimes get out their 30 minutes before everyone else and come back whilst the outfield players are still training. The only time that they're supervised by Levein/Houston/Kelly/Black is when they move over for a training match. They'd be left to their own devices without a keeping coach.
marko Posted 2 June 2005 Posted 2 June 2005 i imagine they will also look at the opponents attacking set-pieces/free kicks and penalties and the best way to defend against them

Do you reckon that Mourinho and Wenger coach their squads to get to the levels that they achieved as players also? Bad point made badly.
