Remember the 56 Valley Parade Victims 26 years on.

Saturday May 11th 1985, saw Bradford City fans flock to Vally Parade to watch their team take on Lincoln City and see them presented with the 3rd Division Championship trophy. 4 terrifying minutes shortly before half time saw 56 of them killed (54 from Bradford and 2 from Lincoln) in a fire which engulfed the main stand.

26 years on please spare a thought for our fellow football supporters at Bradford City and Lincoln City.

An event often overshadowed by the Hillsborough disaster but one we should not forget!

I remember it, I was always amazed how many died it seemed to take quite a long time before things got really bad, seemed ample time to evacuate, but obviously not.

so sad.

I'm not too familiar with the incident, were they killed by the fire/smoke or crushing/trampling?

I think one of the big contributors was all the rubbish that had accumulated beneath the wooded stands.

I thought it was down to someone dropping a ciggerete end and with all the rubbish and the stand being wooden, it went up.

Horrific incidents and horrible for anybody to watch. Rest In Peace all the 56 that died.

The video below is just over seven minutes long and contain the original raw footage and commentary by John Helm on the day.

EDIT: Please use discretion, the footage contains camera shots of people coming out of the building on fire. It really is the untouched, original Yorkshire Television clip.

It's quite shocking how quickly it spreads. It's also easy to forget the celebrating Bradford fans who were cheering and chating, just having no clue as to the horrors that were going on (In no way a huge dig at those fans, how could they know what was happening).

I guess with an event like that you'd have expected everyone to realise, guess they just didn't.

Victims will never be forgotten. Football's just a game, and everyone should get back safe.
