Leicester City forum v. General Football forum?

Recommended Posts

Just copying a message posted after various threads relating to Sousa were moved to the General Football forum...no big deal, but as there are obvious grey areas between "everything LCFC" and "non-Leicester related" and as a lot more people use the Leicester City forum (some like me, rarely bothering with the General Football forum), wouldn't it be easier to leave anything involving people with an LCFC connection in the Leicester City forum, rather than leave some and remove others?

Sir Alf Bentley (16/05):

"Maybe some people (myself included) start threads about Sousa in the LCFC forum as they rarely look at the General Football forum, and turn to the Leicester City forum for any thing "Leicester-related", as it is advertised....and see Sousa as having such a connection, as a recent manager.

I understand that he could now be seen as having no relationship to LCFC as he left a few months ago. If so, why does the Leicester City forum contain threads relating to baseless speculation about a former loan player (Curtis Davies) and about a defender who left 3 years ago (Stearman), as well as the thoughts of a player who retired 10 years ago (Walsh) on his then teammates (Lennon/Heskey)? Wouldn't it be easier to leave anything with even a tenuous LCFC connection in the LCFC forum and to use the General Football & Sport forum for completely unconnected topics (e.g. West Ham's relegation, Champions League final etc.)?

As for Sousa, it is quite true that he may come good elsewhere, as Holloway did, but he'd need to have been on a steep learning curve after the fiasco here. I'm not sure how much credit he should get for almost getting Swansea into the play-offs....didn't the managers immediately before and after him achieve just that, suggesting he may have under-achieved with the squad at his disposal?"

This at least the second, if not third thread about this, check the general football and sport forum.

In general any ex-Leicester players, managers etc that are still plying their trade go in General football as they are no longer part of Leicester City. Bearing in mind the number of ex managers and players there are around allowing them to reside in the LCFC forum could overwhelm it.

As for your examples:

Walsh no longer plies his trade as a footballer or manager

Stearman topic was about would we have him back playing for LCFC so was a legitimate LCFC topic

Davies topic was about would we have been higher in the league if he stayed so was a legitimate LCFC topic

Sousa moving to Hungary has no tangible connection to LCFC other than he used to be here.

Of course they'll be some grey areas and we try not to be too pedantic about it but with your Sousa topic someone had already chosen of their own accord to post a similar one in the General Football so there was really no decision to make.

I'm sure you'll still be unhappy as no one really likes their topics to be merged, moved, closed or ridiculed but with such a busy forum having some guidelines is essential even if you don't fully agree with them, hope that helps.

Davie,

Thanks for taking the time to respond - and indeed for all that you and others do for Foxes Talk. I sort of understand your logic and there'll always be grey areas, anyway. I'll try to bear these guidelines in mind and to consult "General Football" when I've got time (very rare!).

In fact, I'm not "still unhappy" and wasn't unhappy before, just a bit unclear! These days, I even struggle to feel bitterness and resentment about events worthy of such feelings, never mind the location of a comment in a football forum (much appreciated facility though it is)!

Thanks again

"Sir Alf"

For what it's worth, the only reason I said anything was just because it was a multiple thread, not because of the location.

I didn't mean to make it sound like it should've been there.
