The Year Of The Fox Posted 6 July 2011 Posted 6 July 2011 There seems to be quite a bit of interest from what I've seen of late about safe standing. IF, and I know its a huge and unlikely if, it was, would you be glad to see it back? It'd increase the atmosphere at games, something I believe helps the team you support. It'd put an end to the fans fed up of people standing in front of them and blocking their view at games. Just a couple of points really, though I know there are many more. I know there has been threads about this before, but it'd be interesting to see how many of us would be grateful of it returning for whatever reason you may have. Finally, the easy bit is clicking yes on this poll. If you feel as strongly about it as I do we need to do more. Take a look at these threads below and see what you could do yourself. Its a long shot, but if everyone sat on their hands nothing would ever be done, so lets at least try and raise a bit more awareness between other fans, our MPs and our club! http://www.foxestalk.co.uk/forums/index.php?showtopic=74311 http://www.foxestalk.co.uk/forums/index.php?showtopic=73965&st=0&p=1895979entry1895979
Fox92 Posted 6 July 2011 Posted 6 July 2011 Don't have a massive opinion on this because I enjoy standing sometimes, but also sitting as well (especially when we are loosing!). I only think it would add to the atmosphere at older grounds where fans appear to be closer to the pitch, I can't imagine it enhancing the atmosphere at the Walkers like. This would be better for people that prefer to sit though which is probably the biggest advantage. Not to bothered that much though.
The Year Of The Fox Posted 6 July 2011 Author Posted 6 July 2011 Disagree there. The atmosphere would improve if 25% of our fans were stood. The acoustics of these new grounds are crap yes, but if you get enough standing and singing it becomes irrelevant. Hope everyone is writing to their MPs, and would visit the rail seating example if it came to the club.
The Year Of The Fox Posted 6 July 2011 Author Posted 6 July 2011 there should be 100s of votes not 15!!
Alexikokopops Posted 6 July 2011 Posted 6 July 2011 If it's proved to be safe (which, by all accounts, seems to be the overwhelming case), and is implemented sensibly (i.e. not having the entire kop as a standing area because people will still want to sit) then I struggle to think of any arguments against having a section of the ground that allows people to safely stand. People have the choice, people have no excuse to block the view of those sitting down by standing, the atmosphere would arguable improve, everyone is safe. I am for it.
Jordan Posted 7 July 2011 Posted 7 July 2011 Quite a loaded question here. In order for "safe standing" to be brought back, there would have to be plenty of solid proof that "safe standing" existed in the past. Standing per se isn't a dangerous or harmful act. However, English football ground terraces of yore were often plagued with overcrowdedness, in disrepair, poorly policed and sometimes rife with hooliganism.* Any new attempt to bring standing room only sections to British football stadiums would have an end result that would be quite different than standing room only sections in pre-Taylor Report stadiums. Alexikokopops touched on a few of those points above. * Disclaimer: I've never stood in an English terrace, pre- or post-Taylor Report.
The Year Of The Fox Posted 7 July 2011 Author Posted 7 July 2011 Standing before it was banned, was as a guess, not overly safe. (Nothing to do with hillsboro) just the general overcrowdedness etc. Having said that I dont understand why football fans get singled out. You can stand at rugby, and what about moshpits at a rock concert? With todays pissy health and safety though it'd be as safe to stand as it would in your own home. We're paying a price for the 80s hooligans. Thats stupid though as the average fan nowadays is nothing like an 80s fan. The government are stuck in the past
Fox92 Posted 7 July 2011 Posted 7 July 2011 You point out that with health and safety it would be safe, but there will always be someone/a group of people that will always take it to far.
