shen Posted 30 July 2011 Posted 30 July 2011 Great to see the swap alive and well. Looking forward to listen to LargeAl's (again), Samilktray's and Rico's tonight. Here's my contribution. I went for some more energetic stuff this time, both slow and and fast-paced. I don't usually include songs by the same artist in such a mix, but ultimately I just felt it worked well so why change it? I've also added three 'bonus' tracks by Trentemøller and Steven Wilson as I seem to remember they went down well. The playlist for the mix is included. Enjoy! Shen's mix Bonus tracks

Trav Le Bleu Posted 2 August 2011 Posted 2 August 2011 The Only Way – after a second play… after a third play… I really had to have a few goes at this one… and I feel like I should like it, but I don’t… I think. Strange Seas of Thought – I recently downloaded the whole Amplifier eponymous album. I have to say I’ve become a fan and liked this too. Thin Air – Sounds a bit Bloc Party, which is no bad thing. Good one. Feel Alive – bit disappointed by Demians Rainbow Ruse – but this track is great! Though it sounds like a mishmash of NiN’s Something I Can Never Have and Soundgarden’s The Day I Tried To Love. So not too sure how original it is. Haw, Haw, Haw – Nah, pretty generic for me. Build Us A Rocket Then – Pretty sure that the reason I have Oceansize’s Frames album is cos you had some Oceansize on the last mix you did. However, I have to say I find them very hit and miss and this is a miss. Will definitely look into Demians and Anathema a bit more. Cheers Shen. I'll get onto the bonus stuff some time.
shen Posted 2 August 2011 Author Posted 2 August 2011 Cheers Trav. Great to hear you've been Amplified I didn't expect the Freak Kitchen track to be a great success, but thought it was a bit of silly fun with a decent riff. Still think you'd enjoy Oceansize's last/final album, which IMO is the most complete of them all.
The Doctor Posted 5 September 2011 Posted 5 September 2011 The Only Way - Quite like it, strikes a nice balance between relaxing music and the up and at em style of a few others.. What Else Is There - Not sure, Decent track but (having listened to the original on youtube) I'd say the original version is better than the remix. Strange Seas Of Thought - Really like this, good choice. Rainbow Ruse - Sounds like it could be a good track but it just doesn't stand out for me, perhaps a few more listens would help. You & I - Listened to this 6 or 7 times trying to make up my mind but I'm still not sure about this. Thin Air - Very nice tune but I don't think the vocals are up to scratch with the rest of it. Feel Alive - quite like this, good find The 78 - Not particularly keen on this, it's got the shapings of a decent track but not my cup of tea. Haw Haw - Really don't know what to think, it's got that oddly loveable bit of being so poor, like a really crap b-movie. Build Us A Rocket - Yes, v. good track.

Cheers for the review Al! Glad you liked some of it. Just wondering, was that the tracklisting you had? Trav also listed them all jumbled up from the sequence I'd made. And I know what you mean regarding Haw Haw Basically all Freak Kitchen's songs have that caricatured feel about them.

My iTunes is naturally on shuffle so it played the playlist in a random order. I just reviewed it in the order the tracks came up.
