Greatest moment as a Leicester City fan

I was just discussing this with one of my old schoolfriends the other day.

Definitely the Derby play-off final would top the list, especially as Walshy scored pretty much right in front of me.

After that, apart from the other victorious play-off and league cup wins, my three favourite moments as a City fan were:

1) Away at Villa, 4-1 down, feeling really miffed and almost tempted to walk out at half time (though I've only ever left before the end of a match once, and we were 4-0 down by then) and we turned it around, David Lowe scoring twice in the last few minutes. What an atmosphere that was.

2) The win at Old Trafford. On the tram to the ground, got chatting to a Manc fan who patronisingly said "Ah well, it's a day out for you anyway, isn't it?". Would have LOVED to have bumped into him on the way back.

3) Might seem a bit strange to choose a loss at Forest as a highlight, but it was the season we'd finished 9th and they'd got relegated from the prem. They invaded the pitch at the end, and the look on their faces when it dawned on them that none of us really cared that much that we'd lost 1-0 was hysterical.

I remember that, Solskjaer scored didn't he? Think it was on SKY aswel..

It was...I VIDEOed it!

Beating Man u at Old Trafford

Heskey tiddling all over Sol Campbell at White Hart Lane

Steve Claridge's last minute goal against Palace

League Cup's and appearances in Europe

The Blackburn fans giving us a standing ovation at Ewood Park after we beat then in the last game of the 96/97 season.

David Pleat being sacked

David Pleat being accused of kerb crawling in Highfields...

Sitting in the family stand at Old Trafford on my 10th birthday...a little spot of blue in a sea of red and white...thank you dad! :scarf:

I was at Wembley for the victories against Crystal Palace and Tranmere. But for me the best moment occurred at Filbert Street in March 2000 and lasted for ninety minutes. Those who were there will know what I'm talking about: Leicester City 5-2 Sunderland. That may seem strange. Sure, it was a good match and we won easily enough, but the result was unremarkable. Even so, that day was the first and (so far) only time I felt we were on the verge of something special.

In hindsight the O'Neill era was special enough as it was. But at the time I'd grown used to our relative success and that match made me feel as though we had a foot in the door of moving to the next level - that of European qualification via our league position. Stan Collymore's performance that day was breathtaking. He looked like the missing piece of the jigsaw. The twenty goal a season striker who could propel us into the top six, perhaps even beyond.

Of course much of that feeling can be put down to youthful naivety. I was sixteen. I didn't think about the financial and demographic restrictions to a club of our size in the same way that I do now. And do you know what? It was so much better that way. Back then, in my young and (mostly) unsullied mind, football was about what happened on the pitch. Time and its most faithful companion, cynicism, have ensured that no single football match will ever make me feel that way again.

Beautifully put that. Concur with every word.

I remember that as well, absolutely tear-jerking. It was actually the end of the football club in that form with the new things coming in.

Claridge's winner and the Cambridge 5-0 play off take some beating, not to mention Ian Marshall putting us in front at the Vicente Caldron.

That Cambridge game was the dogs, went with 3 Cambridge fans and said goodbye at the ground,i was lucky i got home that night as i wasnt driving.

One of the matches i remember and loved wasnt a classic game, but the 1997? coca cola cup 2nd leg v wimbledon,we won on away goals .we were getting battered but held on,my mate lived in shoreditch(LCFC fan due to my influence) and his flatmate was the bar manager at a local pub,i got there at 2 and was getting free beer all afternoon.

Cracking night out, pay on the door of that massive stand wasnt it? We sold about 1,500 tickets and so many turned up we filled an 8,000 stand lol I dont think there was a fan in their close to being sober.

I was bundled out that night after invading the pitch on full time. Never saw Grayson head a ball like that again.

I think probably Tommy Wright (the second one) notching at home to Forest in 02/03 - Local boy and youth team graduate scoring the goal which all but confirms promotion against main rivals - the stuff of dreams.

Also Steve Howards last minute header v leeds in L1.
