Greatest moment as a Leicester City fan

Got to be this one:

It's been 15 years now but I can still remember the commentary word for word. Sends shivers down my spine every time I watch it - just the best thing to ever happen when you're 11 years old!

Other than that the next two will sound weird cos we lost both of them, but the game against Athletico Madrid where we lost 2-0 always sticks in my mind - me and my dad managed to get tickets (returned from Madrid) right next to the Kop, who didn't shut up all night. The most incredible atmosphere EVER - probably made better because the ref was so ****ing awful, it was such an amazing night even though we lost. Even now my dad can still remember there being a rare quiet moment then hearing his 12 year old sing "the referee's a willy puller" in the silence!

The third best moment was in the last season at Filbert St - losing 1-0 to Man Utd, we knew what was about to happen, and about 10 minutes left someone in the Kop started singing "Stand up if you love Leicester" - the WHOLE stadium (even the Carling) got to their feet and for the whole of the last 10 minutes every single Leicester City fan was singing and supporting their team. I remember having tears in my eyes not because we were going down but just cos it was a beautiful, beautiful moment.

I remember.

Does anyone have a video clip of that?

I was too young to remember all of the Wembley visits but remember the loss to Tottenham and the win against Tranmere.

So for me, the win against Tranmere is up there as I was only 6 and seem to remember it a lot!

Also, beating Forest 3-0 at home the other season was good, absolutely mental in L1.

And Howard's last minute winner vs Leeds.

Just seeing Ian Marshall come off the bench looking like a 70s, aging porn star then showing everyone how to score a goal always made me smile.

By the way, I was 13 when this happened and staying in a caravan with my grandparents in Swithland Woods listening to it on a shitty little radio. The whole campsite was deserted, every single old folk (it was mainly old folk) in the site must have been listening to the radio. When the final whistle blew you could hear the whole site cheer in unison and my Grandad was going crazy. Happy, happy day. Not just the result but the whole atmosphere. Will never forget it. X

Fantastic moment. The Man U fans were singing "down in... minutes" as the clock ticked down and down. Think someone was down injured at the time when the chant started up and it just rippled round the ground until the whole of Filbert Street was stood up singing "stand up if you love Leicester" applauding. Never seen a whole stadium joining in with one chat like that. It was almost the realisation that after all the O'Neill years etc. that era for LCFC was through.

It was eerily poignant.

Muzzy Izzett's winner against Liverpool.

Leicester were 1-0 up against Liverppol after a second half goal from Ade Akinbyi. Deep into injury time and the game is end to end. Arnar Gunlaugsson Plays the ball to Muzzy who places it low into the net. I was doing a bit of a strut after the final whistle looking forward to seeing all my Liverpool supporting mates on the Monday.

Went out that night, got drunk and then lost my virginity.

Awesome.

I remember that as well, absolutely tear-jerking. It was actually the end of the football club in that form with the new things coming in.

Claridge's winner and the Cambridge 5-0 play off take some beating, not to mention Ian Marshall putting us in front at the Vicente Caldron.

My first thought with this footage was how times have changed! Walshys goal would have never stood (would have been given as a foul on the keeper) and Grayson would have been sent off for the foul on little willy puller tommy Johnson.

Great memories..

My favourite game ever has to be beating Derby in the play off final . After all those Wembley trips and never winning there and winning at last beats all . It was a fantastic day from start to finish Blue sky's all the city fans going down the motorway , seeing the banner over the M1 bridge saying last one out of Leicester turn the lights off . We got there very early had some breakfast and managed to find an illegal drinking cub at 9.30 in the morning ! Then going around Wembley taking the piss out of the Derby fans who looked lost on their big day . Seeing a City fan with a real dead Sheep's head on a stick ( i kid you not ) parading around the Derby end absolute magic . Thje atmosphere in the ground was as usual by then fantastic from the city fans who never stopped singing and shouting all match . Icing on the cake is they played the better football but just for a change luck was with us . When walshy got that last minute goal and the final whistle went i went absolutely crackers , jumping up and down shaking my head saying I don't believe it this doesn't happen to Leicester we are always the bridesmaid never the bride . Then travelling back up the motor way going bananas every time we passed a Derby bus or car dishing out serious abuse and singing our song of the time " No where Derby are going no where " ect we all bought the cheap T shirts outside Wembley which some enterprising spiv had printed before the match which said FOR FOX'S SAKE WE'VE DONE IT ! and even buying for 50p the ones he had printed saying RAM RAIDERS WINNERS , We gleefully waved these at any poor Derby sod we could on the way back . Then back to the local pub where the landlord had set up the video on the big screen for us to watch the match . It was six in the morning before we came out and the gaffer went on holiday on the proceeds lol lol . Not just the best day of my city supporting but the best day of my LIFE.

I was at Wembley for the victories against Crystal Palace and Tranmere. But for me the best moment occurred at Filbert Street in March 2000 and lasted for ninety minutes. Those who were there will know what I'm talking about: Leicester City 5-2 Sunderland. That may seem strange. Sure, it was a good match and we won easily enough, but the result was unremarkable. Even so, that day was the first and (so far) only time I felt we were on the verge of something special.

In hindsight the O'Neill era was special enough as it was. But at the time I'd grown used to our relative success and that match made me feel as though we had a foot in the door of moving to the next level - that of European qualification via our league position. Stan Collymore's performance that day was breathtaking. He looked like the missing piece of the jigsaw. The twenty goal a season striker who could propel us into the top six, perhaps even beyond.

Of course much of that feeling can be put down to youthful naivety. I was sixteen. I didn't think about the financial and demographic restrictions to a club of our size in the same way that I do now. And do you know what? It was so much better that way. Back then, in my young and (mostly) unsullied mind, football was about what happened on the pitch. Time and its most faithful companion, cynicism, have ensured that no single football match will ever make me feel that way again.

I'm not even sure it is what keeps me going any longer. As a kid I put all my hopes and dreams into the football club. Now I put them on my own shoulders and hope I can achieve the things I want to. Of course I want us to be successful, but it isn't the be all and end all. Until I was about eighteen a City defeat on a Saturday afternoon would ruin my entire weekend. No longer. I go to a football match in the hope that I will be entertained. If we can win whilst we do it, then all the better. Going to a football match is more akin to a trip to the cinema for me these days. If I pay my money I want to see a bloody good film. It isn't enough that the good guy wins.
