Bury Player Ratings

Weale - 6 - Would like another look at the free kick, but think it would be pretty harsh to blame either goal on him, didn't stand much chance imo. Had little else to do.

Peltier - 7.5 - Solid defending against a pacey wide man and he made some very positive moves forward.

Mills - 6.5 - For the most part dealt with what Bury threw at us.

St Ledger - 7 - Might have been just me, but I thought he was the better of the CB partnership. Seemed to notice more of a contribution from him than Mills, and he wasn't scared to run out with the ball a little too.

Ball - 6.5 - Didn't have much to deal with but can't really remember him making much of a contribution. Seems adequate cover but doesn't really get forward enough.

Abe - 7 - Good defensive display, really threw himself into today I felt.

Moussa - 7 - Quiet at times but put in a solid shift and made some good contributions going forward.

Oakley - 7 - Put himself about the pitch, made some good forward runs and used the ball well.

Gallagher - 6.5 - Higher because of the freekick, he had a poor game overall. Failed to challenge in the air on numerous occasions, was way too weak in the tackle and passing wasn't good either. Not good enough.

Schlupp - 7.5 - Scored a decent goal and is showing potential, could quite easily have had another. He does sometimes fade in and out of the game a little but when he was involved he was a threat.

Dyer - 8 - Best player on the pitch for me. Didn't always have an end product but was generally quite sharp and drove at Bury numerous times when others were looking might have prefered an easy ball backwards. Very well taken goal as well.

King - 6.5 - Made a significant contribution going forward whilst he was on and really helped open up the game late on.

Danns - Got the finishing touch to a very good team goal which is pleasing but not really worth rating him for 10 minutes play because the overall contribution was quite minimal.

Weale - 6 - Consistently looks like he's going to concede. Very low on confidence, but also makes you appreciate how good Schmeichel is.

Peltier - 7.5 - Looked strong and solid. Fully committed and moved the ball well.

Mills - 7 - Another solid performance from him, with each game you can see his understanding of our shape and positional sense growing.

St Ledger - 7 - Very good in the air. Just likes a little bit too much time with the ball on the floor for me to feel comfortable. Defended well.

Ball - 6.5 - Was the target of most of Bury's attacks, and did quite well in dealing with it.

Oakley - 7 - Still got it upstairs and knows where he needs to be, but hasn't got the legs anymore. Think he found his level tonight. Played in the advanced midfield role to start with.

Moussa - 6.5 - Did ok, tried hard, but didn't really show any class or reason why he should be starting in the league.

Abe - 5.5 - Thought he was very poor last night. Positioning poor and use of ball poor.

Gallacher - 6 - Didn't make any major impact apart from the goal. Too fancy for his own good at times.

Schlupp - 7 - Took his goal well, but missed a couple of decent chances. Caused the centre halves problems.

Dyer - 8 - MOTM for me, worked hard, caused Bury all sorts of problems. Took his goal well and was our best player for me.

Subs

King - 8 - Made a massive impression when he came on. Gave the midfield the driving force to go forward which was missing.

Danns - 7 - Showed signs of class when he came on, and took his goal well.

Fernandes - 6 - No time to make an impact.

Kingy changed the game when he came on. Thought ball looked considerably better than against Rotherham. Dyer definetly MOM what a finish ! Closely followed by Pelts solid at the back.

I heard we took 1100 there, if that's true that's a brilliant effort from us!!

I was suggesting the lack of rating input on this thread was down to a lack fuel on the FT optimism bus, I'm well aware of the actual attendance.

Weale didn't have too much to do. For the free kick Weale showed one side for the player to strike for and couldn't make up the space when he took it. I looked a good free kick so can't really blame him too much.

The defense held up fairly well.

The midfield had so little penetration it was painful to watch at times. Abe played well enough IMO. Moussa and Oakley were fairly anonymous. I've always been a fan of Gallager but last night he was terrible, he honestly couldn't but one pass together. Of course he's best at set pieces, but I don't believe his free kick justified his place on the pitch.

Dyer was on fire. Blitzing down the wing, they had no answer to his pace, even if his shin pads did fall out. He looked the most dangerous man on the pitch.

Schlupp looked exciting, a good player at that level. Not sure if he can step up a level, I'd like him to prove he can.

The game changed when King came on. He was really at the heart of everything going forwards. If he'd started I think the score could have been much much more convincing.

Bury didn't look a bad outfit to be fair to them. I think they'll do well in League 1 this year.
