ajthefox Posted 29 August 2011 Posted 29 August 2011 Arsenal are to offer their fans who attended the 8-2 defeat at Manchester United the cost of a match ticket at a future Premier League away game, the north London club announced. Around 3,000 fans are thought to have made the 400-mile round trip to Manchester on Sunday, only to see their team humiliated by the Red Devils. Manager Arsene Wenger and his inexperienced team were widely criticised for their showing on the pitch, but the travelling support gained widespread praise for backing their team throughout. The north London club confirmed that they would be offering to compensate the supporters who made the trip by paying for a ticket for another away game. ''Arsenal Football Club has announced it will be writing to fans who travelled to Old Trafford on Sunday with an offer to cover the cost of a match ticket at a future Barclays Premier League away game,'' a club statement read. ''Sunday's result was obviously disappointing for everyone connected with the club. Our travelling fans were magnificent throughout and we want to recognise their fantastic support. We will be writing to them shortly with the details.'' http://sport.uk.msn.com/football/news/articles.aspx?cp-documentid=158999105 In today's game where money is playing an ever bigger part, this is an admirable gesture. The cost of the ticket is probably far from the total cost for most of the fans that travelled and it was an absolutely huge result, but for the club to do this speaks a lot of the people in charge.
Jimmy Posted 29 August 2011 Posted 29 August 2011 they could do this every game and not feel the cost with all the TV money they get from the prem and CL, still a gesture that needed to be made
Yojoe36 Posted 29 August 2011 Posted 29 August 2011 I guess that's what Arsenal prefer to do with their money. Give away free tickets, instead of buying players (I know it's not giving them away, but you know what I mean)
Thracian Posted 29 August 2011 Posted 29 August 2011 Can't understand it. Ten goals during 90-minutes of non-stop entertainment. a free practical coaching lesson from the champions, the "collectors item" message of sympathy from Ferguson and a game that will stay in the memory for a lifetime. Sounds bloody good value to me!
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 29 August 2011 Posted 29 August 2011 Most of the travelling fans were probably season ticket holders anyway
