Rincewind Posted 18 September 2011 Posted 18 September 2011 Thinking of having a go at this. Could be interesting
Trav Le Bleu Posted 18 September 2011 Posted 18 September 2011 No qualification at the end, but nothing to give except your time. At the very least it will give you something to do on a Wednesday afternoon and some experience that should help you take things further if you find you like it. It's biased towards community journalism, which is certainly the one of the "nicest" forms of journalism (no dirt-digging, no bad-mouthing, just reporting what's happening locally.) I'd give it a go, if I hadn't already kind of been there. Just my t'pennoth as an ex-journalist.

Been to a couple of their meetings Tuesday morning. I told him I'd like to go on the next course he runs. Already had an article published by them. Out of work atm so if at little or no cost will give it a go until I find work (if) Only want to do part time atm. See if I can manage on that and some income support. Done 45 years non-stop work. Time to give the young 'uns a chance. I did the piece on community pubs. Had a good comment from somebody at Everards brewery on Twitter. I like writing but I said to john Coster my field isnt realy article writing so I need to learn if I intend to be more involved. had the idea of doing articles on pubs. Not so much as revues more history based about them origins etc but that'll take getting people agreeing to be interviewed.

Nothing against the course but knowing of your "specialist" interest in real ale pubs why not do something that will really give you satisfaction and put a proper book together on that?. "Just do it," is what the teeshirt says. Courses are just theory really and a good hourly income for the tutor. I know cos I've given lots of em. They don't make you a journalist any more than going to church makes you a Christian.
Zingari Posted 18 September 2011 Posted 18 September 2011 That looks very interesting and what harm can it do if you’ve got the spare time to do it ? Go for it I’d say
FoxesAreBlue Posted 18 September 2011 Posted 18 September 2011 Yea especially if it's free and the book idea about the history of boozers sounds like a good idea
