Bob Weasel Fox Posted 16 October 2011 Posted 16 October 2011 "Royal" Wootton Bassett as it is now known, thoroughly deserved in my opinion, anybody else?

Guest Bilo Posted 16 October 2011 Posted 16 October 2011 Well deserved as an honour but what difference will it actually make to the town? I'm pleased for em though if it will make Royal Wootton Bassett a better place.
flowwolf Posted 16 October 2011 Posted 16 October 2011 Well deserved except the government are stopping repatriations going through there now. Perhaps they don't like the public to see how many are coming home in a hearse.
Itsthejoeker Posted 16 October 2011 Posted 16 October 2011 Well deserved except the government are stopping repatriations going through there now. Perhaps they don't like the public to see how many are coming home in a hearse. That's because RAF Lyneham is closing down, repatriations are being moved to the other side of Swindon. As far as I'm aware a lot of the town didn't want the name, they didn't feel they should be rewarded for doing what anyone else would do.
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 16 October 2011 Posted 16 October 2011 The people of the town deserve it. They have been fantastic, and respectful. It must have been extremely sad and depressing. Well done to the people of Royal Wootton Bassett. :appl: :appl:

somebum Posted 17 October 2011 Posted 17 October 2011 It makes the servicemen feel special, if people want to waste their time being whipped up into some kind of blind patriotism and stand applauding any old joe in uniform that's their pony to ride.

Its one thing being a **** about LCFC, but its another disrespecting our servicemen you pathetic waste of life. Crawl under your rock and die.
FoxyPV Posted 17 October 2011 Posted 17 October 2011 never understood Meh what does it mean? I'm ambivalent about the whole thing. Its one thing being a **** about LCFC, but its another disrespecting our servicemen you pathetic waste of life. Crawl under your rock and die. Wind your neck FFS. Service personnel are no more worthy of praise than anyone else doing their job.
Leicester_Loyal Posted 17 October 2011 Posted 17 October 2011 They deserve more praise than others doing their job, they may not want the praise, but they'll dam well get it off me. Maybe you'll feel different when you have mates who have lost legs in the army, or know lads who have died over there.
Guest MattP Posted 17 October 2011 Posted 17 October 2011 I'm ambivalent about the whole thing. Wind your neck FFS. Service personnel are no more worthy of praise than anyone else doing their job. Not really. It's takes a different sort of person to be in the forces, fire service etc, they do deserve quite special praise for what they do. You can't lose a leg pushing pens for the council can you? Well done RWB. Beautiful town with beautiful people.

FoxyPV Posted 18 October 2011 Posted 18 October 2011 Not really. It's takes a different sort of person to be in the forces, fire service etc, they do deserve quite special praise for what they do. You can't lose a leg pushing pens for the council can you? You can lose a leg being a builder, you can die working through any industrial accident (like drowning in a slurry tank) but no one wanks themselves over these people who die and get seriously injured throughout the UK every day. Don't tie the Fire Service, for whom i have the utmost respect, in with the Armed forces. For reasons see above. Joining the Armed Forces is a choice that those people make and usually they are filled with so much patriotic shit that they don't see the wood for the trees. Good luck to them for doing it but don't expect me to sit and clap them down the street, wail and gnash my teeth in patriotic anguish for something that is in an inherent part of their job.
