I watched King quite closely and he made run after run forward but wasn't found very often due to our piss poor passing - his runs did lack that bit of conviction and this was best illustrated when the goalie pushed it straight out to him but a defender got half a block in when last season King would have been on the move a bit quicker and would probably have scored

For what ever reason he has lost that bit of zip and with the role he plays without that he will not affect the game like he did

I've just accepted that the season is a right off no matter what happens in the transfer window

It's impossible for anyone to feed passes if people like Mills continually bypass midfield with hopeful clips into crowded melees. Bamba and Peltier weren't much better.

Only Konch tries to be constructive in possession and to offer genuine and consistent support going forward. In a way I especially admired him today because he dropped two or three serious clangers yet still refused to hide or limit his game. In the end he improved considerably for all that he looked knackered.

Bamba just seemed to go his own way, occasionally a liability, occasionally brilliant but always difficult to read or predict.

To me it seems a hopeless task,

The defenders can't do it right

the midfield can't do it right

and the forwards can't do it right.

You are right - there isn't enough movement in midfield - but there were times when the space had been found and the ball just had to be played.

The problem goes deeper than that. Mills just doesn't trust his passing ability. He's been caught out on occasions playing the short ball - and is not helped by being so slow to recover - and I just think the searchlight passes seem the safer option.

He wouldn't get anywhere near a team of mine...nor anyone else who can't pass the ball fast to feet. And yet whoever scouts our personnel seem to search for such players. We have one every season...Wayne Brown, Jack Hobbs, Patrick Kisnorbo.... warriors no question, but ones with a pronounced weakness.

King wasn't the only one to be frustrated. Twice Konchesky was left shaking his head at the total lack of support - first for a throw in and then for a situation where he saved a throw agains us in defence but had no-one making themselves available for a pass afterwards.

We were utterly appalling in defence at times today, not just because of the mess we created in clearing the ball at times (Konch being as bad as others in this department for all his energy), but our marking in the box, irritating errors, poor distribution and unconvincing level of support.

Even Kasper and Konch were shaky at times and Abe was no answer to our defensive cover problem for all his industry.

Today's teams were well matched yet we threatened far more than we did against Ipswich because our system seemed to suit the players we chose. But for all that we never flowed as a team.

That said we had two cast-iron penalty claims ignored, one for a blatant handball and the other for a foul on Beckford.

Yes three points would have flattered us because we showed nothing special out there today but the penalty claims seemed clear enough to me.

Bang on there mate I noticed aswell that almost everytime we had a throw in the total lack of movement and options! I personally think the team is in a transitional period from the change of manager also lumped with the fact the squad seems low on morale. I don't think it can be turned round quick enough to change this season.just to end on a positive I thought Abe had a decent game for us today he seem to work hard and the shot he had was hit well.
