Stuliasz Posted 5 July 2005 Posted 5 July 2005 Hi everyone, after going to the doctors today due to a lump forming in an awkward area of my body, it looks like I may have Pilonidal disease. I won't go into more details about what it is here, this is just a request for any advice from anyone who knows about it or has had it in the past?

Pilonidal disease is a chronic infection of the skin in the region of the buttock crease. The condition results from a reaction to hairs embedded in the skin, commonly occurring in the cleft between the buttocks. The disease is more common in men than women and frequently occurs between puberty and age 40. It is also common in obese people and those with thick, stiff body hair. I know a couple of people who have had that - and it's a nightmare...sorry. They had to have a nurse to come around their house and re-dress it every day for about 6 weeks because it can't be stiched. you did ask!

I guessing (hoping) that what you have shouldn't be terminal, but is bastard-unpleasent all the same? It's a lesson to all blokes to not hide things, or not talk to someone about things that could turn nasty if not treated. I've had a rich and varied medical history over the past ten years. Some of the things used to mortify me to talk about, but it's water off a duck's back now - as it will be for you in time. Hope things get sorted for you ASAP.
