Rincewind Posted 15 April 2012 Posted 15 April 2012 Just need a little help with numbering pages in my book. It is automatically nubered by the publishing site with their template but the pages are not supposed to start until fter the title page and copyright page. In mine it will be page 5. Thing is pages 2 3 4 are showing and when I edit the footers I can't remove them without mucking other pages up. I bet you are confused now but all books have to be this way. Title page then ISBN copyright. Last page should be left blank.
AoWW Posted 15 April 2012 Posted 15 April 2012 Under 'insert' you should find a 'header and footer' section. Within this there should be a 'page numbering' icon with a small down-facing arrow next to it. Click this and it'll give you a 'format page numbers' option. In this you can specify where you want the page numbering to start. I don't know if this is what you mean?
Rincewind Posted 15 April 2012 Author Posted 15 April 2012 Yes but I've been trying that. But I've been editing the footer by right clicking. I'll try that way.
Fox92 Posted 15 April 2012 Posted 15 April 2012 I've had this problem before. I don't know if there is anything to help, so what I did/do is manually change every number.
Rincewind Posted 15 April 2012 Author Posted 15 April 2012 I may have to do that. I'll leave it until I have all the pages in Have put in a copyright page in yet. What they do you purchass a book for a final edit and check it is right Will ask on their forum. just a final proof read to do. Just looking at a poetry mag/book which was a monthly issue and it doesn't follow the rules. I wonder if I can get away with a different format with it. . It's a self published one though which is only available by subscription. not through retail. I have an inside title page, a blank page for the copyright, introduction then a few lines of acknowledgements. The poems then start which I think is page 5.. I'll try going through the process of uploading it but stop at the last stage of distribution. I have to check it anyway.
sphericalfox Posted 15 April 2012 Posted 15 April 2012 there are plenty of video tutorials on youtube for basic Word stuff, and Office packages. Sometimes it's hard to take directions, but to see exactly where to go does help.
Rincewind Posted 16 April 2012 Author Posted 16 April 2012 Managed todo it in the end. I had to set up a new doc for the first 4 pages. Now I have to merge them but I have to do a final proof reading on it. Had to put the copyright page in myself. Copied from another book inserting my name of course. just need the ISBN number to go in. It can be published in the UK so delivery cost won't be as bad as I thought. And I can get a discount for myself. I need to buy one to check it looks right first. Before removing it again I had an email to say they had changed the cover to spral bound because of the number of pages andalso the font on the cover but as i'm doing it again i can change the design.
Rincewind Posted 16 April 2012 Author Posted 16 April 2012 Just need to merge the two files if I can find out how to do it.
