Guest MattP Posted 18 May 2012 Posted 18 May 2012 Micky Ward and Arturo Gatti clashed in what in my opinion was the greatest fight I've ever seen. If you even remotly like boxing watch round 9 of this, awesome. RIP Arturo. Never forgotten.
pSinatra Posted 18 May 2012 Posted 18 May 2012 The greatest round of boxing I have ever seen. The courage & determination of both men is unbelievable. RIP Arturo Gatti
Zingari Posted 18 May 2012 Posted 18 May 2012 That was some display of courage by both of those and I believe they forged a great friendship outside the ring . this is an interesting read too http://www.nydailynews.com/news/national/arturo-gatti-family-fighting-truth-surrounding-boxing-champ-untimely-death-brazil-article-1.463213
Jordan Posted 19 May 2012 Posted 19 May 2012 That was such an incredible fight. Actually, more than that, it's an incredible trilogy, and I'd say the best boxing trilogy of its era. Ward took such a beating in the 2nd fight and spent the better part of eight rounds wobbling around the ring like a baby giraffe on ice. But he went toe-to-toe with Gatti until the final bell. And Ward came so close to stunning Gatti in the 3rd fight, but Gatti won with a busted hand. I can't help but wonder if, if the 1st fight were fought in 2012, the ref would have stopped the fight right after Ward knocked Gatti down to start the 9th. Likewise, for the 2nd, if that fight would have been called in the 3rd after Ward stumbled face-first into the canvas. Those guys were animals. This is better than the Barrera-Morales trilogy (which is awesome, more controversial, but still not as thrilling), better than Holyfield-Bowe. In an odd way, what's happened since only adds to the legend. Such a shame about Gatti. The Ring named Gatti bouts "Fight of the Year" four times in a stretch of seven years, which shows what a fearless boxer he was.
