Matt Posted 9 July 2005 Posted 9 July 2005 Yay or Nay?! Whats the most overtime you have done? I think Yay for the money, In the past week I have done 11 hours overtime, and I may be doing 4 hours tommorrow, but i'm not sure, I did 4 hours last saturday, 1 Hour Monday/Wednesday, half hour Tuesday/Thursday and 4 hours today, £6 p/h (Time and half) is my overtime rate but if I work tommorrow I will be on £8 p/h (Double time)...£8 p/h is what everyone else gets on a normal weekday but I get £4 p/h on a normal weekday because i'm an apprentice - £4 is pretty good for an apprentice wage though but in a years time its possible I could be earning upto £8+ p/h, so i'm not to disappointed, when I reach £8 p/h as a basic wage i'll be working all the sundays I can (£16 p/h B) ) I have been working at this company for about 5 months now and I have done more overtime in this week than I have at all! So what is everyone else's OT rate? Whats the most OT you have done? and are you a fan of OT?!
Anish Posted 9 July 2005 Posted 9 July 2005 This week I have done far too much overtime. I don't know how many hours exactly cos I only keep tabs of my total overtime hours at the end of the month, but I know it's been at least 9 hours. It's good because I get paid time and a half but I have been knackered all week and today has been the first time I've got some much needed rest. Ideally I'd like to do about half an hour overtime per day, I'm not that big a fan of OT to be honest.
Guest Posted 9 July 2005 Posted 9 July 2005 I've had to travel for work, so overtime is irrelevant there. We don't get paid for extra time, but we can 'bank' hours if genuinely needed, but only upto 7 hours; I've lost 8 hours in a month before now!
Matt Posted 9 July 2005 Author Posted 9 July 2005 I've done it all wrong really, because I have done hardly any overtime at this company but this week is my first full week of the summer (Finished college so now I work Allday - Everyday, without having my Monday scive at college) and I have done more overtime in this week than I have done my whole time working there, but consdering I have done 11 hours OT I don't feel to tired really, if I work tommorrow (Which I have descided not to do now) maybe I would feel tired because by next friday it means I would have worked everyday for 14 days and god knows how much OT. I hate the thought of OT but once I am there I am fine and don't mind doing it, quite like it once i'm there to be honest, its good at my work because its just a laugh with the other people that work there, its the kind of work I want to be doing (Kind of it is Carpentry and Joinery work which is what i'm training for but I ain't exactly learning or doing much chippy work!)

Scow Posted 11 July 2005 Posted 11 July 2005 Overtime is a no no for me. Why depress myself even further?
Deathside Posted 12 July 2005 Posted 12 July 2005 I used to run a nightshift team working a 4 on / 4 off shift pattern (10 hours per shift) When the opposite nightshift team leader was on holiday I was obliged to cover his shifts as overtime The longest run I can remember was when my opposite number took 2 sets of 4 shifts as holidays - This meant that I worked 10 hours a night for 20 consecutive nights (Think about it - that's one shift short of 3 weeks solid) The overtime was compressed into 12 nights in the middle - Therefore for those 12 nights I worked my 40 scheduled hours plus 80 hours of overtime I was so knackered at the end of it that I slept until payday
TrickyTrev Posted 12 July 2005 Posted 12 July 2005 I'm currently working about 30 hours a week on top of school. Which is illegal and a breach of my human rights. Hell I need the money though!

I don't need much sleep, just one of those people and there si very little school work to do at the moment as I have doen my exams. That can only take up about 15 hours of my time. I couldn't do it for more than a couple of weeks though. I usually only do 8-10.
