1964FOX Posted 29 August 2012 Posted 29 August 2012 Isn't that an oxymoron or something like that? Yiu gt the moron bit right, I should check before pressing the post button.
FoxesAreBlue Posted 27 July 2013 Posted 27 July 2013 I'm sure I heard someone say that the Silver Arcade is being sold off? Anybody know anything? Wasn't it supposed to open in time for last Christmas?
Rincewind Posted 27 July 2013 Posted 27 July 2013 There is a lot being done in that area. The Lanes Day seemed to be a success and I think the council are preparing for Leicester's bid for Culture City. Victoria Park is also being done up ready for Armistice day which I believe has an anniversary next year. The car park being done and the road up to the Cenotaph being resurfaced so the march goes straight there. Toilets are also being put in. I got this from the bloke that does some radio and campaigns for the disabled. He goes to a lot of council meetings and nags them for change. The plans are available to see. I suppose Silver Arcade and Viccy Park renovations will be good if its done well but there are other areas of the City that look like a dump.
howlinmadmurfdoc Posted 29 July 2013 Posted 29 July 2013 My great grandad used to run silver arcade in the 30s/40s and lived in one of the apartments at the top, I think my gran might have even been born in there.

Zingari Posted 29 July 2013 Posted 29 July 2013 That's a coincidence. I was conceived in the doorway of one of the shops. We used to hide in the stockroom of Irish Linen watching the courting couples through gaps in the blanked out windows. To think I could have witnessed this momentous occasion . Has your mum got a very giggly laugh ?

We weren't there to judge If it was the couple who always used to come out of the IL Rondo about 10 every Tues , you should be very proud of them . Very energetic . We used to stay late stocktaking just to watch them.
