FoxesAreBlue Posted 21 December 2012 Posted 21 December 2012 McLaren to reveal their 2013 car on 31st January. http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/104904 Let's hope it's a bit more reliable this season!
isaidno Posted 21 December 2012 Posted 21 December 2012 Hopefully going to some type of race next season. If Turkey happens. I'll probably go. Should be going to the Czech speedway Gp in Prague in May
FoxesAreBlue Posted 21 December 2012 Author Posted 21 December 2012 I want to go to one next season, one of my clients has family who works for FOM so hoping to get a sneaky freebie to Silverstone. If not I like the look of Spain or Monza, I've only been to one Grand Prix before; Monaco in 2011, I was on the hillside. Even from there it was a brilliant day and the noise is something else!
isaidno Posted 20 January 2013 Posted 20 January 2013 Rumours going round tonight that Timo Glock has left / leaving Marussia because they can't afford to keep him
Amin Posted 20 January 2013 Posted 20 January 2013 The problem for Glock is that he has fallen off the radar over the last three years while being stuck at the back of the grid (even if has done a good job) and if he leaves F1 to go to DTM there is a high probability that he won't be coming back.
Amin Posted 20 January 2013 Posted 20 January 2013 Glock was never more than average anyway. He certainly isn't championship material but he's a perfectly good midfield driver, a bit like Kovalainen.
Jimothy Posted 20 January 2013 Posted 20 January 2013 He certainly isn't championship material but he's a perfectly good midfield driver, a bit like Kovalainen. When I read that part I thought I'd clicked on a Vardy thread!
Amin Posted 21 January 2013 Posted 21 January 2013 Glock's departure is confirmed: http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/105209 Shame. I suppose they will be looking for a pay-driver now. Petrov is probably the favourite considering his nationality, but there are plenty of drivers out there offering big money for a seat.
iamafox Posted 22 January 2013 Posted 22 January 2013 Feel sorry for Glock, he's very underrated and underappreciated in my opinion. Wish him good luck at DTM if he goes there.
ADK Posted 22 January 2013 Posted 22 January 2013 Glock was just an average mid tier driver. You either need to be championship material or have financial backing in todays climate.
Mack Posted 22 January 2013 Posted 22 January 2013 Can someone with more knowledge of F1 than me explain the reasoning behind signing a driver based on the financial assistance they will bring to the team? And how do these drivers bring financial assistance exactly?
Brainy Posted 22 January 2013 Posted 22 January 2013 Money from drivers sponsors to help run the team
act smiley Posted 22 January 2013 Posted 22 January 2013 Can someone with more knowledge of F1 than me explain the reasoning behind signing a driver based on the financial assistance they will bring to the team? And how do these drivers bring financial assistance exactly? A lot of sponsors will follow the drivers themselves, often due to local interest - for example, Pastor Maldonado is backed by the Venezualan oil industry, Perez is backed by Telemex. As these are large companies they can bring money to the team as well as paying the driver - drivers can bring up to £5-10m a season for a seat, which pays for quite a lot obviously. The difference in performance between an average driver and a good driver is less than the difference that £5-10m worth of engineering talent can bring to a car unless you already have one of the best design teams already, which is why its not just the teams at the very back who rely on that cash to operate that use pay drivers
isaidno Posted 22 January 2013 Posted 22 January 2013 http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/formula1/21143847 Mercedes possibly getting rid of Ross Brawn
ADK Posted 22 January 2013 Posted 22 January 2013 I hope not. Always liked Ross Brawn. Hope Mercedes arnt going to be Toyota mk2.
Amin Posted 22 January 2013 Posted 22 January 2013 If he does leave, Paddy Lowe could join Merc, which would be a huge loss for McLaren.
isaidno Posted 25 January 2013 Posted 25 January 2013 France and Portugal both interested in the 'TBA' race in July. Portugal makes sense. All the Alonso fans will hop over the border, and Portimao is an awesome track.
FoxesAreBlue Posted 27 January 2013 Author Posted 27 January 2013 Can't wait for F1 to come back.... not long until that McMerc rolls out of the garage.
Amin Posted 27 January 2013 Posted 27 January 2013 The new Lotus is being unveiled tomorrow at 7.15pm on their youtube channel.

anotherharboroughfox Posted 28 January 2013 Posted 28 January 2013 New Lotus E21: Looks like the stepped noses are staying for another year. Will be interesting to see if others go for the Mclaren approach of a smoother nose or not.
