Webbo Posted 28 February 2013 Posted 28 February 2013 You surely kinda know what I mean though Some things are just so specific The stinger would develop and evolve over centuries until it becomes what we know now. I'm no expert though, evolution seems plausible to me so it's probably true but I keep an open mind about it.
Rincewind Posted 28 February 2013 Posted 28 February 2013 If its on PBS the programme shouldve been designed for American school-children I'd be worried if you cant understand it Yes I see what you mean. It wasn't in depth like Brian Cox type programme. It was about normal people being able to get their genetic code at a price. Over $1000. Also promoted the company's that offered the service. A couple of stories about people that had diseases and the specific code that caused it and raised the question whether at some point would refuse to insure you if you had certain genes passed on. But it was an American programme so focused just on the USA.
Zingari Posted 1 March 2013 Posted 1 March 2013 Now, coming from soups of gases and minerals you're talking about the origins of life - Evolution doesn't seek to explain that. Evolution explains variation, it doesn't even look at the origins of life. Those emotions are just chemical reactions, and memories, thoughts etc. are just electrical impulses. There's no creative influence - the influence on evolution is environmental pressure and so natural selection. That sounds pretty definite to me that your saying there is no design factor Doc
Tempwan Yierban Posted 8 April 2013 Posted 8 April 2013 Just signed up to a free online course regarding genetics and evolution, run by a US university. I can provide a link if anyone is interested. It was this thread that really made me realise how interested in this I am. I am far from a biologist though. I did well at GCSE and then dropped the subject. Just wanted to provide a heads up - if anyone is interested, let me know and I'll provide a link. And thanks to all who posted here for piquing my interest.
