Villa manager David O'Leary,"Vassell has gone back to have a medical and sign for Manchester City. "It's not fair to say that I had to sell Darius to bring in money," he added. "That would be totally unfair on the club. This is just a good deal." Rumors of the move surfaced when Vassell did not play in preseason matches in Sweden. Vassell, who has one year remaining on his contract, became expendable when Villa signed Kevin Phillips in the offseason from relegated Southampton.
