Anyone here receive EMA payments for attending College? I’m just asking as I’m wandering if you have received your end of term bonus payment. I filled out the form and I’m eligible and the Payment is paid in July. Its mid July and I’m probably being paranoid but I haven't been paid yet. Just wandering if they have started paying them yet?

The principle is that you coem from a background that can support you going through further education. People who do not have that priveledge may be more likely to seek the immediate satisfaction of paid work as opossed to picking up an education post 16.

Whether this works in practice I am not sure. As with most forms of wealth redistribution it is the lower middle classes who are 'hit' worse. Although I see the benefit of the scheme myself, this country has been riddled with problems of social immobility and anythig introduced to try and prevent this I am broardly in favour of.

I didin't say the sytem was perfect, although if they had any brains they would realise they can earn a lot more than £30 doing paid work.

Even the dossers are picking up some form of higher education and/or training which will be of benefit to them and the economy in the long run.

EMA has advantages and disadvantages. It allows people from a less wealthy background still have money coming in while they learn, more wealthy students often get backed financially by their parents (not always obviously).

From experience EMA causes so much seperation and bitterness, my girlfriend gets £20 a week at 6th form but all she gets us resentment from spoilt bitches who get treated to new cars and such like by their parents.

Get a lot of that round here.

Posh kids moaning they don't get their £10 a week whilst simultaneously wearing ridiculously expensive clothes, iPod, Mobile phone and driving the car Daddy brought them for their birthday.

Tell me about it, unfortunatley people that don't get EMA often are rich which often means they are selfish and spoilt.

If they renamed Newcastle Airport Sunderland International, you'd be a tad upset. ;)

i disagree, why should I not be rewarded because my parents have decent jobs? my parents don't give me £10 a week or £100 bonuses so i lose out at the end of the day. and i dont have an ipod
