The Year Of The Fox Posted 4 July 2013 Posted 4 July 2013 I'm in a major argument with the Carphone Warehouse at the mo. Halfway through my £37 pm contract (where I had the HTC Desire HD a cracking phone although I had problems with its internet usage meaning I begged them to allow me to swap it when they eventually relented) They told me what phone I'd get as a replacement- a Sony Xperia Neo, which meant nothing to me (when talking to them on the phone though I eventually agreed) When I got the phone in my hands I realised just how shit it truly was and certainly not of the same value as the HTC was when we took out the contract (£500 if you wanted to buy it outright) When you have a contract you're paying partly for the line rental, partly for the cost of the phone. Carphone Warehouse would not budge when I asked them to lower my monthly payments as the phone I was now paying for was of much less quality. The question is, does anyone know of any websites where you can see how much the phone was at the time of taking up the offer (March time last year) My contract is up for renewal and I've told them to stuff it but they want to help me out. It'd be fantastic if I could prove that this phone was worth say £200 at the time whereas the HTC was £500. I've had a look around and can't see anything, except for the fact the Carphone Warehouse don't even offer it anymore! Any help would be massively appreciated!
Libertine Dream Posted 4 July 2013 Posted 4 July 2013 You'll have to be careful because your not necessarily paying part for line rental and part for the phone because in the terms of the contract a lot wil state it's a free phone. This is how they get away with upping contracts every year with inflation

Look at O2 and their 'Refresh' thing they've currently got going. Phone reviews often give prices Found one-The Neo is available on monthly contracts starting from around £25. You can also pick it up SIM-free for around £370. This was reviewed in June 2011, I got mine just under a year later.
Saxondale Posted 4 July 2013 Posted 4 July 2013 The valuation thing is meaningless. However, you should be covered by distance-selling regulations and can therefore send it back within a certain timeframe. EDIT: Forget what I just said. I've just read your post again and it's a weird situation.
AaronH Posted 4 July 2013 Posted 4 July 2013 You'll have to be careful because your not necessarily paying part for line rental and part for the phone because in the terms of the contract a lot wil state it's a free phone. This is how they get away with upping contracts every year with inflation it's true what you are paying for is the line rental currently and they have put a phone in for free, you aren't under contract with the phone however... With the new O2 refresh you essentially take a loan out for the phone (eg iPhone £600) so the phone is technically still worth that until time of payment (I work for O2)
The Year Of The Fox Posted 4 July 2013 Author Posted 4 July 2013 Tbh I'll see what theyll offer me then think, but right now I could have my missis brand new HTC desire (I broke it and we had to claim) and go SIM only on orange-currently on o2 Im really not tempted by this iPhone malarkey. Complete rip off IMO. What's more I want to use my own music I download for free as a ringtone not anything else. They're just bandwagons people have jumped on I think. So Aaron, in theory the carphone warehouse had no right in insisting they wouldnt let me swap phones? (again)

The Year Of The Fox Posted 4 July 2013 Author Posted 4 July 2013 Was it in her hip pocket? no. It was the day after Watford away in the semis. Disastrous couple of days. She'd left it on top of the fridge but unbeknownst to me half was resting on the door. So when I went to open the fridge. SmashAs for the missis I'd jumped the gun a littl- when she went for her blood tests it said on the sheet, 'fracture' 9 days later she got her xrays back. No fracture apparentley. They were shown to a specialist who said the same. Yet she still can't walk very well at all. She can only do half a day at work and has been fobbed off with some painkillers that make her sick
AaronH Posted 5 July 2013 Posted 5 July 2013 You can swap phones under certain circumstances, we can send them off for repair 3 times and then we can request a replacement handset
