Reminds me of the early sixties side that at one time was in with a realistic chance of doing the double;

The Royal Knuts (from a filbert nut) or so I've been told . It sounds a bit tenuous though.

Weren't we odds on to do the double but went easy on the league to ensure we won the FA Cup?

 

Then, despite being favourites, lost to Manchester United?

 

Something like that anyway.

 

Would our history have been greatly different if we had won the double?

They weren't into squad rotation in those days. Looking back at my match day programmes it seems that the same eleven played week in week out.

i think it was something to do with an old music hall song called Gilbert the Filbert ,  the nut with the k.
