Part Time?!

No thumbs and fingers - After about a week or so your hands will harder up, but a weeks break (That all you need) and they'll be a soft as shit again, I went of holiday about 2 weeks ago, I went back to work and I got blisters and cuts because my hands had gone soft again...

£200 a week is V. Good, just hope people realise how much you can/could be earning in a trade...

The annoying thing (for me) is, I am training to be a professional carpenter/joiner and i'm learning the trade/on an apprenticeship and someone who is just in it for a job is getting paid more than me :o:( Ahh well i'll be up to that rate possibly more soon :P (Thats if you call 1 to 2 years soon )

Oh well fair play to you!

It is good to get in a trade , i wanted to be a plumber but the lack of jobs around my area has meant that it is not possible for me to be one. My mate has just got a plumbing apprenticeship and he is working 6am till 6pm everyday earning £40 a week for 10 weeks and at the end of that 10 weeks the company that set him on could turn around and say sorry but we cant take you on , therefore he really has been doing slave labour. He is abit pissed off at the minute because im starting a job on monday in a warehouse and im going to be earning £112 a week and i have the choice of going in at 7 and working 7 till 5 instead of of the normal hours 8 till 4 which means i will be bringing in about £160 a week. But if he gets offered a job after 10 weeks he will be on there pay roll and eventually he could be earning up to £12 an hour.

It really is quite shocking what employers can get away with, that is truly disgraceful Muz.

Lack of jobs is a problem I have had problems getting jobs I got onto my apprenticeship course and for the 1st year of my course I didn't have a job I was looking vertually every day for 12 months sending loads of CV's off phoning around companies for jobs, I even went round the town and climbed ladders of builders to ask for jobs, I went to god knows how many interviews and the people never even phoned me back. Eventually towards to very end of my 1st year of my course I got a job with a builders I thought great, I'll be focussing on learning Carpentry as my trade but i'll pick up bricking and other trades along the way - How wrong could I have been for 6 months I was mistreated, I was basically a brickies labourer, I learnt nothing whilst working for the company I was getting paid a shit wage and basically the only reason I was still working for the company was because I thought it would get me through my course, that and the fact I had struggled to get the job in the first place, anyway 6 month on one November night I was called to his office, he said "look its not working for you because we can't give you the work and its not working for us, so i'm gonna let you go" - The bastard got rid of me, he "used" me, he wanted me as his shitty little labourer during the summer, but the focked me off when winter came! Anyway it was back to the drawing board and the college found me a job (I was also looking myself) and luckly college found me my current job, I am really enjoying my current job I am in a workshop/factory shopfitting, the only thing that is worrying me is there is talk of the factory being closed down due to redundancies, so I might be back to the drawing board again, but hoping not!

Your mate might be pissed off at the moment but that ain't the way to look at it, EVERYONE wants stuff now, everyone wants stuff a.s.a.p, but in the long term he will be earning shit loads especially as he is learning plumbing. I mean in a few years as a carpenter I could be earning around £200 - £300 per DAY! (That would mean I would be at the top of the trade so I doubt i'll be earning up to that but its just the rates to look at!)

One thing to warn your mate of is make sure they give him a yes or no after 10 weeks because in my first job with the arsehole builder he never officially took me on, so that how he got rid of me that simple....
