Pen 3 Posted 10 April 2014 Posted 10 April 2014 I'd be interested in other views on the FBS Kop, I remember at games when all three home pens were half full or less the gradual "bunching" at the back; I also remember: toilet rolls being thrown when we scored, pen 2 left empty on some games when trouble was expected (not sure I'm right so someone let me know if you know)', running down the front when we scored, going mental, then running back only to realise you'd forgot where you'd been standing, losing your mates after going mental when we scored, guys standing on the crush bars, my DMs being absolutely trashed after a game and not knowing why, the noise...the noise, THE NOISE...good times indeed
ceredigion Posted 10 April 2014 Posted 10 April 2014 Filbert Street was a fantastic old ground which had its own distinctive features. I saw games in all parts of it, the Kop, the Double Decker, the Wing Stand, the Main Stand, the Main Stand enclosure, the Family Club enclosure, the North Stand, the East Stand, even from the TV gantry on one occasion. I loved it. Standing at football matches and being able to move around during the game was brilliant. It's always been a shocking infringement of our liberties that we can't stand at games anymore. Why people keep voting for the bastards who impose all these restrictions on us is beyond me. And I loved being able to turn on MOTD and know immediately where the game was being played because all the grounds were completely unique and recognisable. Now all these Ikea stadiums look exactly the same (the KP included) and you could be anywhere. You've got to feel sorry for any fan born after about 1985 because they'll never know what it was like to attend a proper football match when it was still the game of the people.
Guest bss9401 Posted 10 April 2014 Posted 10 April 2014 I fully respected Milne. He was a good solid manager with good footballing principles. I look back on it as my second favourite era after MON. Milne was never given much credit because of the impact of being lower first division and having poor crowds. Remember that the this was the worst era for football violence so crowds were lower everywhere. It did, however mean that I could pay at the gate for pretty much any game ie. AFC, THFC, LFC, MUFC etc home or away. We had the best front line I have known. I saw over 75% of all Foxes games in that spell home and away.
ceredigion Posted 10 April 2014 Posted 10 April 2014 For sure in the Milne era you could rock up at the turnstile five minutes before kick-off, hand over three quid and watch us play Man Utd, Liverpool, Arsenal or whoever. All-ticket games were almost unheard-of and our home games never sold out. Good for us fans at the time but maybe not so good for those who had a financial stake in the club. But the days of the local, small businessmen owning top-flight clubs are well and truly dead now. They didn't put much into the club but I don't think they took much out either. Today, sadly, it's more a question of which hedge fund do you support.

Good words from the hillsides, especially over the stadiums. Though the seating situation came from above, riding the problems from hooliganism, and Hilsborough...shame. I was a kopite.Started in the main stand with my dad, watching Bobby Moore, who made my day, by talking to us in the warm up, After telling off a cameraman on our behalf, after the camera team shouted at my dad to get the kid off the box above the old Managers dugout. When I first went alone eith my best mate the future kopites were in the West stand so 2 10 year olds Dared to enter the lions lair...10 years old today wouldnt get the chance.we were 12 when we entered the kop. Then because of my sport and city connections moved to the double decker. Then Athletics and Rugby took over my saturdays.Though any free saturday, opportunity knocked. Often with teammates, even when were in London or North, and our game was cancelled late, 5-6 of us would do a 100 mile dash. First courting days double decker, or Kop, usually the lucky girls 1st game. That said they said they prefered to watch rugby, the contact was harder. Filbert street though gave a great atmosphere like other older stadiums. City ,Derby , Newcastle had the most travelling fans Man utd , Liverpool depended on local fans for their away figures.
