davieG Posted 16 May 2014 Posted 16 May 2014 Leicester City have confirmed their squad for the defence of their Hong Kong Football Club Citibank Soccer Sevens title later this month. Last year the Foxes beat Newcastle United in the final to take the overall crown, and will be looking to do the same this year at the prestigious competition – held between 23 and 25 May. Lining up in Group D, City will take on Aston Villa and two sides from Hong Kong in an effort to make it through to the second day of what is a highly competitive competition – including Chelsea, Manchester City, Sunderland and Rangers. The Club have now confirmed the 10 players flying out to Hong Kong, who were all part of Steve Beaglehole’s Development Squad and their stunning end of season run, which saw them secure a sixth placed finish in the Barclays U21 Premier League. Adam Smith | Goalkeeper | Age 21 A talented goalkeeper with an imposing presence, Smith was also part of the group that secured the title last season. The former Middlesbrough youngster is currently on loan with Cambridge United, who he recently helped reach the Conference play-off final at Wembley with a string of impressive displays. Alie Sesay | Defender | Age 19 Another member of last season’s squad, Sesay has captained the Development Squad this season from the centre of defence, but is also an accomplished right-back. As well as being an influential member of City’s Under-21s Sesay made his league debut on loan with League 1 Colchester United against Sheffield United in February. Kieran Kennedy | Defender | Age 20 A Manchester City youth product, Kennedy is a gritty centre half blessed with an outstanding ability to read the game from defence. The youngster has also appeared at right back on occasions for the Development Squad. Kennedy is also a threat from set pieces, with a couple of key goals to his name for City this season. Callum Elder | Defender | Age 19 Australian youth international Elder has had a breakthrough season for City’s Development Squad at left back, putting in a string of impressive performances to help them win seven of their final eight games. The energetic full-back is a willing runner down the flanks and possesses an excellent delivery on his left foot. Ryan Watson | Midfielder | Age 20 A former Wigan youngster, Watson linked up with Beaglehole’s Development Squad earlier in the season, and has gone on to forge impressive partnerships with Michael Cain and Jak McCourt at the heart of City’s midfield. The 20-year-old’s all-action displays have caught the eye – particularly his brace of goals in a 4-0 win away at Arsenal. Jak McCourt | Midfielder | Age 18 McCourt is another member of the Development Squad to have made this football league debut this season following a spell on loan with League 2 side Torquay United. A tough-tackling midfielder known for his quality from set pieces, this will be McCourt’s second trip to Hong Kong after playing a part in last season’s victorious campaign. Michael Cain | Midfielder | Age 19 Eight goals for the Development Squad this season and a goal in last year’s final victory against Newcastle United make Cain one-to-watch in Hong Kong. The youngster’s attacking instincts and set piece delivery have been key for the Foxes this season, and with league experience from a loan spell at Mansfield under his belt, last season’s Academy Player of the Year will be a key player. Joe Dodoo | Forward | Age 18 England youth international Dodoo is blessed with electric pace, brilliant dribbling ability and an eye for goal. This will be the forward’s first time in Hong Kong, and he will be eager to continue the kind of form he has shown for the Develoment Squad recently. Marcel Barrington | Forward | Age 19 Another Hong Kong debutant, Barrington is a versatile striker with outstanding pace and power who is capable of turning any match. After joining City’s Development Squad earlier this campaign, Barrington has operated both through the middle and from the left, and has scored several spectacular goals. Harry Panayiotou | Forward | Age 19 The Player of the Tournament for last year’s competition and scorer of City’s second goal in the 2-0 final victory over Newcastle, Panyayiotou is again likely to be a key member of the squad. The youngster capped his first team debut as a 17-year-old with a goal against Leeds, and is a quick and tenacious forward capable of operating in wide positions or through the middle. Tickets for the tournament are available at www.cityline.com. Entry is free on the Friday evening, while tickets for the weekend are priced at HK$160 per day or HK$300 for a two-day pass. Rob1742 Posted 1 June 2014 Posted 1 June 2014 There were a few trophies. The teams that came first and second in the groups went onto see if they could win the main trophy. The teams that finished third and fourth in the groups went on to see who could win the plate competition. So we basically won that. There was also one other trophy called a shield, which was a competition between the losers of the teams that came first and second. A little complicated, but I suppose it kept everyone interested, even those that initially had a mare at the start of the competiton
