Guest ttfn Posted 11 November 2014 Posted 11 November 2014 We had 5 shots. First one, ball to vardy in behind, cross onto ulloa head (good header mind) Second, debatable penalty from long ball To vardy in behind Fourth, long ball to vardy and nudge in the back got him in, could have been argued as foul but bit soft. Fifth, horrible defending to be dispossessed, ball in behind for vardy. Notice a trend there? No other team is affording him that space and that out ball isn't working like it has done before and we then look pretty clueless. The first is just great attacking play. If you're going to pick faults in the defending there we may as well not bother. I don't disagree that we are incredibly one dimensional in possession and that our panicky insistence on humping it towards Vardy is way too easy to defend (and I have said as much in other posts) but if you look at the four goals we'd scored before that United game (and the two since) none were like that. Another way of looking at it is that we have scored 6 goals from crosses this season and we currently don't play with wingers and can't score to save our lives. The mentality is unquestionably different. Whether that is down to confidence, formation, tactics or plainly that the management and players think that we're not good enough is unclear. We've gone from a position whereby we were lining up to face Manchester United with the players having quite literally been told to "have a go" (according to interviews with Vardy and Morgan) to going into a home game with West Brom trying to "establish the right baseline performance" (Pearson).
Al-aLondon-Foxile Posted 11 November 2014 Posted 11 November 2014 We should sign a couple more central midfield players, just so we can rotate the 4 that play every week. Maybe Scott Parker, not in a great Fulham side ;-)

I never picked holes in the first goal, I suppose that's what I was getting at, we are very one dimensional and teams are starting to deal with the ball to vardy and ultimately his pace, a lot better, and were struggling. I agree about the mentality, it seemed to really shatter with that result and late goal against Burnley. I think we need to go back to what we know best, 4-4-2, with our creative players out wide and have the option of vardy's pace, and ulloa in the air and a lot of creativity. We may well be bossed in midfield, but at the minute were conceding possession, goals and not really getting great opportunities. I want him to just play how we won the league.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 11 November 2014 Posted 11 November 2014 We had 5 shots (in the United game). Erm, no we didn't....
ImBlue Posted 11 November 2014 Posted 11 November 2014 Erm, no we didn't.... On target. I'm pretty sure you were aware of the point I was trying to make.
