Head Honcho Posted 29 August 2005 Posted 29 August 2005 Here's a crazy idea! Why don't we all stick to the speed limit and then you wont have all this bollocks! I know I'll be doing that! So your the one who i'm always stuck behind on the motorway!!
Head Honcho Posted 29 August 2005 Posted 29 August 2005 I'm led to believe that you have to be going over 36mph to get booked in a 30mph zone. To stop any descrepances and camera accuracy problem they allow 10% +3mph so 30mph +10% +3mph =36mph This applies to all speed limits so 40mph + 10% +3mph =47mph

(I have heard people from other sources also say this)

(I have heard people from other sources also say this) Babysquad4eva is right. Camera's have to have a tolerance (although I thought it was 10% + 2mph). This has nothing to do with camera accuracy. It's due to the fact that all cars are calibrated slightly differently, so one car's 30 mph is another car's 28 mph. Consequently, the police allow for this with a tolerance.

However, this happened a year ago (in Leicester). More recently, a couple of friends were clocked at just 36mph, again in Leicester and in the middle of the night, when of course it is of utmost importance to avoid speeding (think of all those schoolchildren crossing the street at that time of the night). Just mentioning this because it seems strange that both of them were doing exactly 36mph?!?! Frankly, I doubt the accuracy of these cameras and their speed measurements <_<
cisono Posted 30 August 2005 Posted 30 August 2005 Incidentally, talking hypothetically, is driving around without a number plate an option? In Italy you get done for that, but apparently in the UK you can - in some cases - drive around without a number plate on the outside of your car?
Random Burglar Posted 30 August 2005 Posted 30 August 2005 Doing 31 in a 30 mph area- sure they're not telling porky's? I am 90% sure there is a tolerance level of 10% (ergo camera doesnt flash till 34 mph????) is 10% + 2
cisono Posted 30 August 2005 Posted 30 August 2005 is 10% + 2 This would seem to tally with my friend getting done for driving at 34mph in a 30mph area...
