Matt Posted 28 August 2005 Posted 28 August 2005 Went to the this festival thing today (Not music just stalls/shows, e.t.c) and there was a stall/company promoting there products - They are called Safe Plate and they have a spray that you spray on your number plate and when you go past a Speed Camera and/if it flashes your number plate reflects the flash from the camera and therefore there camera cannot read you number plate so you can't get done for speeding they can't contact you, you don't get points on your licence and you don't have to pay fines! Bet your all thinking - This is illegal - Nope! Apparently there is currently a loophole in the law in England which makes this 100% Legal. The company we're saying this law is likely to change soon (not too soon apparently ) but they say when this law changes you either change your plate (Which will cost about £6 at a guess), or you either keep the spary on your number plate and risk being caught (i.e. Police somehow catching on or somehow finding out) but they say if you do get caught they guess there would be a fine of abotu £60. However the spray does cost £20 (Not sure whether that was a show price or whether is RRP is £20) so that is quite expensive considering the law could change fairly soon. www.2youdirect.co.uk I havn't bought any but I am think I am going back tommorrow so mgith buy some tomorrow, not sure though - I do speed, but if everyone truthful almost everyone speeds apart from the old farts that you follow in a National Spped Limit areas that drive at about 40mph (), but I don't spped excessivly but on Friday I was doing about 32 - 34mph in a 30mph and there was a mobile police van hidden in trees, I didn't see it until last minute I don't think I was caught but i'm not sure gotta wait till Tuesdays post to be sure. Going back to the old farts comment - People forget drivng too slow is also an illegal offence but do mobile speed camera pick up on that? Do police stop people for driving to slow? NO!
Wellman Posted 28 August 2005 Posted 28 August 2005 Yea I heard about this ages ago, might have been on Top Gear, not to sure. Is wierd as it's legal! And about the old farts..... I don't yet drive but they piss me off! GRRR
Hitesh Posted 28 August 2005 Posted 28 August 2005 Some guy down the pub was talking bout it. He had jsut got a speeding ticket and there was another pissed up bloke tellin him bout it. I thought they were chattin shite and bout some ilegal stuff, but i guess i was wrong.
cisono Posted 28 August 2005 Posted 28 August 2005 Went to the this festival thing today (Not music just stalls/shows, e.t.c) and there was a stall/company promoting there products - They are called Safe Plate and they have a spray that you spray on your number plate and when you go past a Speed Camera and/if it flashes your number plate reflects the flash from the camera and therefore there camera cannot read you number plate so you can't get done for speeding they can't contact you, you don't get points on your licence and you don't have to pay fines! Bet your all thinking - This is illegal - Nope! ... Actually, no. What I am thinking is "Does it actually work??!!?!?" Apparently, it costs 25 pounds...
Little Nicky Posted 28 August 2005 Posted 28 August 2005 It's the same thing as using clear nail varnish! Wel so I hear
cisono Posted 28 August 2005 Posted 28 August 2005 It's the same thing as using clear nail varnish! Wel so I hear And does that work!?!?
Wellman Posted 28 August 2005 Posted 28 August 2005 And does that work!?!? I'm not being funny, but how can you tell if it works or not?! Go through a 30mph zone doing 50mph and see if you get a letter back or soming?!
Wilson Posted 28 August 2005 Posted 28 August 2005 Yeah I went to the same place but on Saturday (Sounds like I didnt miss too much on the football side of things ) only problem was the place was full of people wearing Coventry tops Anyway my brother bought some but he's gone away for the weekend-apparantly it does 6-7 cars so im gonna spray it on mine when he gets back.
Phil Posted 28 August 2005 Posted 28 August 2005 if its invisible to the naked eye how do you tell when you need to apply more?
john_lcfc Posted 28 August 2005 Posted 28 August 2005 i saw this at the game fair they told me that it would take at least 3 years for it too go through parliment to have the law change but that they couldnt really detect it anyway.. they also said phil that one good spray lasts that number plate a life time but they are likeley to say that arent they
cisono Posted 28 August 2005 Posted 28 August 2005 I'm not being funny, but how can you tell if it works or not?! Go through a 30mph zone doing 50mph and see if you get a letter back or soming?! That's exactly why I am asking you instead of testing it myself
Wilson Posted 28 August 2005 Posted 28 August 2005 It's guaranteed so if you get caught in some way they'll pay your speeding fine and refund you your money but obviously cant do much about the points on your licence - Nowadays the police look at the negatives because people have all sorts of different ways to get past a speed camera but this spray even works on the negatives.
Matt Posted 29 August 2005 Author Posted 29 August 2005 Actually, no. What I am thinking is "Does it actually work??!!?!?" Apparently, it costs 25 pounds... Cost £25 normally, but a special show price it costs £20 - I am going back to the show this afternoon and today is the last day so normally if you leave it late(ish) you can normally haggle abit, seeing as this is a company promoting a product I don't know whether they will come down on there price, but theres no harm in trying Yeah I went to the same place but on Saturday (Sounds like I didnt miss too much on the football side of things ) only problem was the place was full of people wearing Coventry tops Anyway my brother bought some but he's gone away for the weekend-apparantly it does 6-7 cars so im gonna spray it on mine when he gets back. I was quite surprised yesterday I saw about 5 Leicester shirts. I also looked at a autograph stall (Pics signed) asked if there we're any Leicester there weren't but there was no Cov either - There was a signed Kasabian picture but it was £30 and part of the thing for me is I actually like to get the signature myself I go to the festival every year because I get in free My Grandma used to be in the Bonsai society (She founded it ) that are there and the society members are obviously given tickets free, so I used to get tickets through my grandma but I still know members in the club so I get the odd free ticket through them!
fingersave Posted 29 August 2005 Posted 29 August 2005 if u want 2 test if it works do this...at nite get ur camera put the flash on a take a pciture of ur car and see if the number plates can be seen ro not
Jay Posted 29 August 2005 Posted 29 August 2005 crazy as this may sound......but why not follow the speed limits after all they are there for a reason and then you wont get caught or have to spend money on things like this!!
Simon Posted 29 August 2005 Posted 29 August 2005 crazy as this may sound......but why not follow the speed limits after all they are there for a reason and then you wont get caught or have to spend money on things like this!! Haha fair enough. I have to agree for the most part... I do 30 in a 30 area, 40 in a 40 area, and usually 50 in a 50 area this is usually because they are in built up areas, with pedestrians (particularly children). National speed limit areas I often go well over the speed limit, but I drive safely and know my limits...
Matt Posted 29 August 2005 Author Posted 29 August 2005 if u want 2 test if it works do this...at nite get ur camera put the flash on a take a pciture of ur car and see if the number plates can be seen ro not From the SafePlate website Q- Can I test Safeplate with my Digital camera?A- Speed cameras operate with a flash power of 500 watts. Safeplate is formulated to react within this range. It will not react in following car headlights or the 2-4 watt power of a digital camera. We test Safeplate with one tenth the flash power(50 watts) at a distance of 2-3 metres.(see examples). crazy as this may sound......but why not follow the speed limits after all they are there for a reason and then you wont get caught or have to spend money on things like this!! What when people occasionally by accident go slightly over the limit i.e my example the other day in a 30mph area and I was doing between 32 and 34 mph (not sure exactly what I was doing) and there was a Mobile Speed Camera Van, don't know whether I have been caught will have to wait till tomorrow's post. I know at least 2 people who have been caught in a 30mph area doing 31mph and they we're caught they had to go on a course or have points, they did the course - On the website it says The greater majority of UK drivers are careful and responsible citizens.Naturally we don’t condone driving at excessive speed. But, do you really deserve a hefty fine and penalty points for being a fraction over the limit? You use your car everyday. For work. For leisure. For your family. Safeplate helps protect that freedom. As I have said people forget about all these old farts who drive slow - they are also commiting an illegal offence but how many of them are stopped and fined? Fair enough you shouldn't be caught by a camera for driving slow because there may be traffic therefore you are forced to drive slow, but how many slow drivers are caught by patrol police? Hardly any if at all! As I have said I won't deny I speed because I does if everyone's truthfull most people speed whether its 1mph over the limit or excessive speeding, I don't speed excessivly but I am a fast driver. Went back today the price was still £20 so I didn't bother.
Simon Posted 29 August 2005 Posted 29 August 2005 Doing 31 in a 30 mph area- sure they're not telling porky's? I am 90% sure there is a tolerance level of 10% (ergo camera doesnt flash till 34 mph????)
Head Honcho Posted 29 August 2005 Posted 29 August 2005 I think £20 is the going rate for it wherever you buy it.You could always buy it and then charge yer mates a couple of quid for a spray. You could always say the spray was on the car when you bought it if it becomes illegal, they have to prove it wasn't.

I am 90% sure there is a tolerance level of 10% (ergo camera doesnt flash till 34 mph????) There's a tolerence on Mobile Speed Camera's because obviously there is someone in the Van "manning" the camera so they decide but apparently there is now no tolerence on perminent camera's.

You could always say the spray was on the car when you bought it if it becomes illegal, they have to prove it wasn't. I did think that - When I bought my car my number plate was stuck on by double sided tape, after a week my number plate was hanging off so I took it back to that garage and said "why isn't my number plate screwed on?" The garage said "Its actually now illegal to screw number plates on" the garage said they would screw the number plate on but if I was stopped I would be responsable but I just said if I got stopped i'd just say it was like it when I bought the car.
Little Nicky Posted 29 August 2005 Posted 29 August 2005 Here's a crazy idea! Why don't we all stick to the speed limit and then you wont have all this bollocks! I know I'll be doing that!
