- GOVERNMENT SOUND -

Goverment "weight & treble"SoundSystem was formed in 2009, it's a Reggae Roots Rub a Dub SoundSystem, playing vocal reggae & dubwise music clean & clear & bass heavy from a high powered 2way weight & treble soundsystem.

Playing along side of sounds like Operation from Balckburn, Hytal Bosrah from Birmingham, Vibration Studio from London, King Comic from Manchester, Jah Hamma from Birimingham, our strength is the uplifting concious riddims played out to the people, spreading the words of love, peace & harmony!! Bless

- JAH HAMMA -

Jah Hamma was around in the late 70's and early 80's. In those days, sounds built and painted their own speaker boxes. This determined their own identity along with sound quality. In these times, there are a lot of 'shop' built boxes. The sound has now been rebuilt and ready to play roots and culture for the I's. In 2004,Dan I (the son of 'P'an original member), with the help and guidance of his father, started building the sound from scratch. excluding records. Which took dedication and a lot of hard work. The I's listened and watched sound systems on tapes, videos, cd's etc and went to dances, to educate, encourage and uplift. About 18 months ago, I&I met in a dance and they told me, about the works and intentions. 'P' told me that they decided to call the sound Jah Hamma again and if I was interested... Now, here I am, the third member of the sound 'Strugglin' Man' So now I&I will give thanks and praise, through Jah Works,Sound and Power. JAH JAH BLESS

- INSTRUMENTS OF JAH -

A north east uk based custom built sound system and soon to be recording label, inspired the the likes of Jah Tubbys, Jah shaka, Iration steppas, channel one.

We aim to promote positivity and unity through the medium of word sound and power.

KONTAKT, DUBFORCE UK & DUB WISE Present.....

--- CHANNEL ONE meets YOUNG WARRIOR in SESSION ---

... LIVE P.A. By MURRAY MAN (Mellow Vibes Studio)

--- SATURDAY 7th JULY 2012 ---

@ The Music Café,

23a New Park Street

off Braunstone Gate,

Leicester,

LE3-5NH

- CHANNEL ONE x YOUNG WARRIOR + SOUND SYSTEMS IN SESSION -

-- YOUNG WARRIOR --

The Young Warrior has worked as a producer for many years now working with the likes of Jah Shaka, Gussie P , Mafia & Fluxy , Ras Muffet and many more.

He has recorded soon to be released tracks with ever rising Uk female artist Lexxy and ,south east london’s well known Rockaway, Sandeeno, Sister Beloved and many more to be added to his list.

Many of the Young Warrior’s productions have been played by sound systems like Iration steppas, Jah Voice, Tabot sound and most of all the great Jah Shaka sound system. In August 2006 the Young Warrior gave a special one off interview for the BBC on BBC Three counties radio with Ras Kush of which gained listeners all over the world tuning in to hear the Young Warrior talk personally for the first time in this one away interview. He has also given interviews for the Muscially Mad documentary & Touch Magazine.

The Young Warrior’s DJ set has a very new however old school sound playing roots & culture dub music from the 70's till now in the traditional Shaka warrior style connecting with the elders who attend shaka dances but also with the younger and new generation so they can also get a piece of his musical message.

-- CHANNEL ONE --

Channel One Sound System was born in the year 1979 by brothers Mikey Dread and Jah T. Before that time we played in parties and blues dances in 1973 with our father’s sound system Admiral Bailey who was also playing blues dances and weddings from the early sixties.

In 1975 we linked up with an elder sound in East London called King Edwards who was coming to the end of their sound system days. We merged the two sounds together and overnight became a force in East London armed with 4 foot & 6 foot double boxes (2 x 18” speakers) and various single 18” boxes what was amplified by a 3kw value amplifier.

In 1977 we bought our first truck, a Commer Carrier. We now had the transportation to get around without the need for hiring a vehicle. For the next two years we played locally and around London with other sound systems.

In 1979 we decided to rename the sound Channel One Sound System simply because we were playing nough tunes from out of the Channel One stable, Maxfield Avenue, Jamaica. In 1982 I (Mikey Dread) had a vision that I wanted to take the sound to a more international audience. The best places at that time were the colleges, polytechnics and universities.

In 1983 we started to go nationwide. Channel One started to be a travelling sound to places like Swansea, Cardiff in Wales, Bolton College in Lancashire, Plymouth University, Devon to the giant BIC venue in Bournemouth, Essex University to East Anglia University in Norfolk, Keele University in Staffordshire to Middlesborough University in Teesside in the North East of England. At the same time we were put on the bill with bands like Aswad, Misty in Roots and Ska bans like the Selectors and Bad Manners.

In 1983 we were given the opportunity to play Europe’s biggest street festival, the Notting Hill Carnival, London. Then we were playing to just 10 people for most of the day, 23 years later we are playing to 10,000 people a day.

In 1990 we took our first tour abroad with a 4 date tour of Italy and have been touring ever since. We have visited Sweden, France, Switzerland, Belgium, Germany & Finland along the way.

In 1994 we were the first sound System to travel to the Republic of Ireland for 2 gigs, we drove from London to Holyhead caught the ferry to Dublin port then drove to the other side of Ireland to a city called Galway. At that time it was strange for the Irish people seeing base bins being wheeled down Galway High Street into the Castle Club. The session itself was A1 because we took the crowd from all the pubs and clubs down the High street when they heard the heavy baseline. The day after we drove to Dublin and played to 800 people with a further 300 people being locked out side a venue called The Furnace. For the next few years we continued playing the college circuit up until 1998.

In 1999 we were invited to play at the University of Dub in Brixton, London which is a 3 sound system unity event.

In the year 2000 we went down to the South of France twice and played two memorable dances supporting Burning Spear on one and what was to be Dennis Brown’s last European show.

In 2004 we played at England’s biggest festival Glastonbury and ripped the place apart. The man controlling the PA system knew his pa had worked at the end of the 2 hour show. As usual the rain tore into Glastonbury for about 20 mins but the crowd stayed to make it the best two hours of the festival.

In 2005 we were back beating up Glastonbury when a man walked over to us and said he would like Channel One to come down under on the Big Day out Tour in Australia, which starts in Auckland, New Zealand for 1 date and another 5 across Australia, and true to his word we were on our way down under in January 2006. The first time ever for reggae music on one of the World’s biggest travelling rock tours. Channel One Sound System’s objective is to break down barriers through playing roots rock reggae music.

KONTAKT Presents.....

--- THE BIRMINGHAM TAKEOVER ---

... JAH VOICE x HYTAL BOSRAH x JAH HAMMA

--- SATURDAY 8th SEPTEMBER 2012 ---

@ The Music Café,

23a New Park Street

off Braunstone Gate,

Leicester,

LE3-5NH

!!! DUE TO CIRCUMSTANCES BEYOND OUR CONTROL KING EARTHQUAKE IS UNABLE TO ATTEND THIS SESSION AS ORIGINALLY PLANNED !!!

-- JAH VOICE --

Jah Voice Sound System and crew hails from Wolverhampton in the UK. Hi-tek and modern, Jah Voice is a definitive Sub-bass Roots Sound.

Established in 2002 Jah Voice introduced us to Father Johno and son Gavin Levi, Wooligan and Ras Tread

Having quickly established itself as a sound with not only a distinctive bass rumbling, but also a quality matched by but only a few.

Jah Voice has set out upon a path of rightousness to bring the joy and love of music to all people of all race, creed and colour.

In a short space of under 3 years, Jah Voice has gone from strength to strength culminating in an invite to the Univeristy of Dub alongside

veterans Aba-Shant-I and King Earthquake.

With an ever growing reputation and a buring desire to spread love, Jah Voice is here and will strive to develope and grow with passion.

-- HYTAL BOSRAH --

We started playing music at the age of 15 years, most of the members were related, we played locally in and around Birmingham, places like Claremont Road in Sparkbrook, the name of the sound at that time was Hytal.

We then joined forces with another sound called Crystal who lived in the same area as ourselves, the new name was now Hytal Crystal sound system. We played at a lot of the midnight dances at The Locarno night club in Birmingham City centre, and played abroad in places like Germany, France, and Belgium, those days it was more Soul, Calypso and reggae.

The music we started playing as Hytal was Roots which for some reason had vanished. some of the members went on to be radio DJ and moved away from the sound to further their career what they are doing now only Jah knows. We went into the bashment, R&B, Hip hop, and Soul music, infact we played everything there was to play, but i did miss my Roots music no one seemed to play it any more.

One day I came across an old friend called Errol (king Earthquake Sound system) who took me and some of my cousins to a Roots bash in London what I heard was music to my ears, my cousin had a sound too so we decided to re - invent the sound by joining forces and calling it Hytal after my sound and Bosrah after his sound (HYTAL BOSRAH) playing roots music. A lot of money was spent and we now have a large sound system, we also produce our own music out of our own studio,

-- JAH HAMMA --

Jah Hamma was around in the late 70's and early 80's. In those days, sounds built and painted their own speaker boxes. This determined their own identity along with sound quality. They were joined in 2002 by Craig Macleod, and then in 2006 by Jerome Joly. SHAKA2013WEB.jpg

Leicester Dub Club Presents.....

-- The Mighty Zulu Warrior JAH SHAKA & Sound System --

--- SATURDAY 5th MAY 2013 ---

-- 22.00 - 06.00 --

@ STARLITE 2001,

80 Wharf Street South,

off Lee Circle,

Leicester,

LE1-2AA

-- JAH SHAKA + FULL SOUND SYSTEM IN SESSION --

We are very proud to finally confirm the return booking of the mighty zulu warrior himself... JAH SHAKA, the originator and the inspiration for the all the other UK sound systems.

Jah Shaka has been operating a London-based, roots reggae Jamaican sound system since the early 1970s. His name is an amalgamation of the Rasta term for God and that of a Zulu warrior, Shaka Zulu.

Jah Shaka events are renowned for attracting a wide audience from all backgrounds and races. Shaka believes it to be a testament to the quality of the message that he expounds in his choice of music and his Rastafarian beliefs.

Shaka stayed true to his Rastafarian beliefs during the 1980s when many other Sound Systems had started to follow the Jamaican trend towards playing dancehall music. His refusal to compromise inspired a host of new UK reggae artists and Sound Systems such as Eastern Sher, The Disciples, Iration Steppas, Jah Warrior, Channel One Sound System, Conscious Sounds, The Rootsman and Abashanti-I. Non-reggae artists such as Basement Jaxx have also cited Jah Shaka as an influence during interviews.

On his own record label he has released music from Jamaican artists such as Max Romeo, Johnny Clarke, Bim Sherman and Prince Alla as well as UK groups such as Aswad and Dread & Fred. He has released a number of dub albums, often under the Commandments of Dub banner.

In 1980 Shaka played himself in the film Babylon (directed by Franco Rosso), operating his Sound System in a soundclash at the climax of the story. In 1989 Shaka visited Jamaica and worked with many musicians there, including King Tubby.

The Jah Shaka Sound System continues to appear regularly in London, with occasional tours of the United States, Europe and Japan. Live footage of Shaka featured in the documentary All Tomorrow's Parties based on the musical festival, which was released in 2009

KONTAKT / UNOD Presents.....

-- KING EARTHQUAKE x YOUNG WARRIOR --

... BOTH ON THEIR OWN SOUNDS !!

--- SATURDAY 1st JUNE 2013 ---

-- 22.00 - 04.00 --

@ THE MUSIC CAFÉ (TMC)
23a New Park Street
off Narborough Rd / Braunstone Gate
Leicester
LE3-5NH

-- KING EARTHQUAKE --

King Earthquake sound system was founded by Errol Arawak in the late 70's. In the beginning originally there were six members including Errol, the other five were cousins. It was like a family sound...

Errol has been playing sound system since 1977 before leaving school, at that early age the sound wasn't that big so only played mainly in Blues dances but increasing the sound every time. Five months after leaving school, when he was only 17 he played at a major dance. Up until then the sound didn't have a name, but after the dance someone commented that the sound should be "Earthquake"...

A promoter approached Errol for the next dance and asked for the sound name, without thinking he replied him "Earthquake"! After a string of clashes the sound was renamed to "King Earthquake" as he was NEVER defeated.
Anyway, as time went on the music started to change in style as did various sound members, everything started to drift away from roots and culture...

All of the other roots sounds stopped playing and a new trend was taking over. He was the only sound still playing roots and dub, much to everyone's dislike. Sadly by 1985 KING EARTHQUAKE went into storage and life became meaningless, playing in the sound system is the only thing he knew...

Days, weeks and months turned into years and Errol was still drifting along aimlessly, He had nothing to show for his life. His only achievement was locked away gathering dust in the garage at the bottom of the garden. Well the year 2000 arrived, it was time to wake up out of this deep sleep he fell into, time to relive again, time to make a comeback.

He dug the sound out and restored it to all its glory and can proudly say that the name KING EARTHQUAKE is now ready to make its mark in society and with help of Jah, change the lives of those who have strayed and put them back on the path of righteousness, Rastafari.

Watch out,The MajestiC King Earthquake is back, praise JAH..."

KONTAKT presents...

-- H.I.M CORONATION DANCE --

w/ ABA SHANTI-I x KING EARTHQUAKE

... from 10.00pm - 4.00am.

@ The Music Café,
23a New Park Street,
off Braunstone Gate,
Leicester,
LE3-5NH

One of the most important events in the RasTafarian calendar is the Anniversary of the Coronation of Emperor Haile Selassie I. This event took place on the 2nd November 1930.
His Imperial Majesty broke with tradition by delaying the ceremony for some time after the death of the previous ruler, Queen Zawditu.

The reasons for this are described by His Majesty in His autobiography:

"On the 17th Maskaram 1909 (27th September 1916) I was chosen heir to throne and regent, with Queen Zawditu occupying the throne; and when I had patiently carried out the work of government, for fourteen years, in my office of regent plenipotentiary, Queen Zawditu died on 24th Magabit 1922 ( 2nd April 1930) and, consequently, on the morrow I was proclaimed Emperor and assumed the throne.
"As regards the succession to throne and crown, we have read in history that, at a time when Ethiopia lived in isolation and before she had established relations with foreign countries, the prevailing custom had been, at the demise of the Emperor, for his death often to remain carefully unannounced. They would then place his son and heir on the throne and crown him immediately that very day. Only after the son's reign and coronation had been announced by proclamation, would they give a ceremonial burial to the dead King.

"At other times, at the demise of the Emperor, the officers of the royal household would take him clandestinely and bury him, before anyone could hear about it, and on the morrow they would place his son and heir on the throne; after they had conducted the royal installation service and crowned him, the death of the father and the new reign of the son would be announced by proclamation at the same time.
But now that Ithiopia had concluded treaties of commerce and friendship with twelve foreign governments, had entered the League of Nations, and had established firm friendly relations, We were convinced that it was proper - in accordance with the practice of the most civilized governments in the case of their coronations - to invite to Our coronation the countries which had set up legations and consulates in Ithiopia. But as it would require a long time to dispatch the letters of invitation and to await the arrival of the delegates, as well as to make all the necessary preparations for the coronation, We arranged for the ceremony to be postponed for seven months."

"My Life and Ethiopia's Progress, Autobiography of Haile Selassie I " - Page 171-3

The ceremony also broke with trodition in that the Empress was crowned on the same day as the Emperor and not three days later.
