just wondering what everyone thinks about religion. i dnt aim to offend anyone on this subject but i think at the current state of the world it is a important issue. Again not wishing to offend as everyone has their own opinions but personally im an atheist and am completly against all forms of religion.

I think in most cases religion is the cause of trouble in the world today.

wot ya think?

i have no need for religion in my life and i never have, so i can only speak from this side of the fence. it does seem to me that at the root of alot of problems is the subject of religion and i think many people even use their religion as an excuse. i can't stand all the bull.

This is not a slight on anyone so please don't take it as one.

I can accept that I was born and I will die and that in the bigger scheme of things my life will be 'insignificant'. Having said that, I live my life in accordance with basic principles which I have. I am happy if the people who are important to me are happy. I try to do things for the community as a whole, whether it's helping kids to develop their cricketing techniques, raising money for charity or simply through helping women with pushchairs down the steps at the train station. What I'm getting at is that I live my life by my own principles and don't need to find further 'purpose' than happiness for myself and those around me.

Have I just written a paragraph bigging myself up?

I believe in god if that counts but i don't go to church or anything like that.

Which one? From what i gather there seems to be about 200!

I believe there is one god.

TPH is about right in what i meant.

I believe there is one god, and that would probably be the Church of England god, if any understands that.

All Christian denominations believe in the same God as I understand it.

For the record I believe in God but am not an active Christian. I think some belief no matter how small is good though and I try to live my life by being kind to others as TPH already said above.

God as Christians understand him/her/it.

Yes, spot on.

Your a genius.

i've been thinking about the big bang theory. what was there before the big bang? if the answer is nothing, well, how can something come out of nothing? i don't believe in god though so i'll still stick with the big bang.

Well if you don't believe in god, you have to ask yourself this question.

No one alive today, will ever be able to know the correct answer.

Hmm. Big topic.

I think religion's alright as a concept. There's nowt wrong with God being your reason for getting out of bed in the morning.

My beef is with the "my religion's better than yours/my god explicitly tells me that you are x, y, z for following yours"-type stance.

I says, "No, **** off. Practice whatever sh*t you want. No one thing is explicitly at the centre of the universe - you've had your say, now let everyone else have theirs."

Me? I don't really bother. I used to go to church as a nipper as my family were of that persuasion. It never interested me, and said nothing to me about my life.

Good evening Nationwider/Nationhider/Nationchanger, (see my clever cross-referencing/use of in joke?) I think you'll be pleasantly surprised by the range of topics available in General Chat this evening. Ranging from using Nelly Furtado as the only thing she's good for (a nob receptacle), to the world of work... even the world of religion.

Hello.

Yes, I'm at the General Chat buffet, and I've got my extra-size plate ready.

So you're one of those who always brings an extra-size plate and glass to the free, yet of limited availability, buffet and wine evening?

Tonight there is indeed a bounteous feast. I was supposed to go to bed half an hour ago but the offerings are so delicious and nutritious I keep coming back for more.

No, I'm quite polite at buffets. I went to one on Sunday and waited until everyone else had gone first.

My table manners in General Chat leave a bit to be desired, however.

My tip for future finger-buffet etiquette. Always attack the Wotsits last otherwise you leave orange powdery remnants on all the other delectable offerings. ;)

My tip is to refuse to pronounce it 'buffay' instead opting for 'buff - it'. Repeat as often and as loudly as possible until somebody corrects you. Then biff them right on the nose.

I prefer the pronunciation buff-ett.

People can't tell if you are a ponce or just trying to be one.

Take empty plate. Swap with plate piled high with miniature scotch eggs. Drench scotch eggs in BBQ sauce. Return to conversation, scotch egg plate in hand, and declare that you don't think much of the profiteroles.

From religion to scotch eggs in 22 steps. Sensational work fellas. Am going to have call it a night now.

Night night God bless (steering the conversation vaguely back on topic hoping no-one will notice the ever so slight detour  )
