Anish Posted 1 June 2005 Posted 1 June 2005 I was wondering what the official admin/mod stance was regarding sig sizes? I thought 60-70k was the most that would be allowed, but then I noticed that Chambo's and Collymore's sigs are well over the 1meg mark. So, can you clear this up?
City Fan Posted 1 June 2005 Posted 1 June 2005 The rules says no more than 30kb but mine is just slightly over. I think signatures over 1mb is a bit OTT.....
Deathside Posted 1 June 2005 Posted 1 June 2005 So go on then, educate a thicko here How are you calculating the size of the sig?
Katy Posted 1 June 2005 Posted 1 June 2005 heh, my sig is the best 118312 Yes, simple yet effective.
City Fan Posted 1 June 2005 Posted 1 June 2005 So go on then, educate a thicko hereHow are you calculating the size of the sig? 118311 Right click - Properties - then it tells you the file size!!
Anish Posted 1 June 2005 Author Posted 1 June 2005 The rules says no more than 30kb but mine is just slightly over. I think signatures over 1mb is a bit OTT..... 118242 Sigs shouldn't be anywhere near 1mb imo. My Liverpool one was 785k and I felt that was too big which is why I didn't use it. When sigs are that big it takes far too long to load. That's just my view - but it's up to the mods to decide.
Deathside Posted 1 June 2005 Posted 1 June 2005 So go on then, educate a thicko hereHow are you calculating the size of the sig? 118311 Right click - Properties - then it tells you the file size!! 118314 So I guess you are refering to the size of individual images within a signature rather than the actual signature? EG I right click the word back in your signature, choose properties and I get the properties page of http://www.foxestalk.co.uk/forums/index.php?showtopic=7093 The size of which is Not Available
City Fan Posted 2 June 2005 Posted 2 June 2005 I was referring to the images. Collymore's sig is nearly 1.3mb......
City Fan Posted 2 June 2005 Posted 2 June 2005 I don't even think the Mods read this forum - someone said that the Transfer thread should be updated because of Sylla joining - yet no response or action......
Scow Posted 2 June 2005 Posted 2 June 2005 Mr Chainsaw hasn't been online for a while - The rules state that signatures should be no larger than 500x150 pixels, and no more than 30kb. However, I'll need to discuss this with him and see what course of action we'll take. The obvious problem with large signatures (Such as Collymore's and Chambo's) is that for people on dial up, it makes the forum extremely unaccessible for users. We'll most likely remove signatures which exceed the limit. It's hard for me and Mr Chainsaw to keep a track on signatures as we're both on broadband connection, therefore we have no problems with loading times. If anyone has problems with signatures, which is affecting their ability to read the forum, you can always disable them by going in to: My Controls > Options > Board Settings.
City Fan Posted 3 June 2005 Posted 3 June 2005 Can signatures that exceed the limit slightly, for example 50kb, be kept?
City Fan Posted 3 June 2005 Posted 3 June 2005 And the animated clip in Scowy's signature is over 160kb!!

It still takes a while to download and if a thread had 4/5 posters who had big sigs (say 700kb+) it would be very annoying. As it is I have to wait a while for Collymore's and Chambo's sigs to download whenever they make posts, which isn't ideal. At the end of the day it's up to you, but even with broadband myself I still sigs should be limited to 200kb. That's why I didn't keep my Liverpool sig because it took too long to load. Can signatures that exceed the limit slightly, for example 50kb, be kept? 118758 I'd definitely agree to that, imo the limit should be 200kb.
Scow Posted 3 June 2005 Posted 3 June 2005 Mr Chainsaw hasn't been online for a few days now, so I'm waiting until I discuss it with him before making a decision.
Anish Posted 6 June 2005 Author Posted 6 June 2005 Now that Mr Chainsaw is back maybe this could be cleared up?
Mark Posted 18 June 2005 Posted 18 June 2005 50-100KB. But it'll definately be 50kb max when i get round to installing something that disallows any image above the limit..
New England Fox Posted 18 June 2005 Posted 18 June 2005 Not trying to tell anyone what to do here but the website I work for has a policy of no more than 90KB for sig and avatar combined and that works well in making it accessible for dial up users. Plus there is a size limit of 95x95 on avatars and 350x100 on sigs. Not saying it should be used here, just saying it works well on the board i help to run.

I notice Scowy's sig (of Savage running) is over 100kb. While you're at it Louise's sig is over the limit too - 491.67 kB to be precise. If that's allowed surely my 540kb sig should be too? *Edit* - Scowy's sig was over 100kb, but he's not using it at present - so that point is void.
