  1. Following Ipswich's defeat today, the maximum points required is now 106 = 25 more points from 10 games.
  2. Following Leeds' result, the total has dropped to 107 or another 29 points from 12 games.
  3. After Ipswich's result, the maximum points needed for automatic promotion has dropped to 109.
  4. After Ipswich's result, the maximum points needed for automatic promotion has dropped to 109.
  5. In addition to the which teams can't mathematically catch us thread , I thought it would be interesting to have a how many points needed to ensure promotion thread. My calculation is that the current total points need is 110, which means 38 more. Southampton (112) and Ipswich (110) could reach 110, but they have to play each other so they can't both do it. So at this point from the remaining 16 games, to be absolutely certain of promotion, the following is enough: 11 wins and 5 draws 12 wins 2 draws and 2 defeats 13 wins and 3 defeats
  6. I think you will find that the H was for Harlech, as in "Men of Harlech". I was also interested in thus kind if thing as a child. Growing up in north-west Norfolk, I suffered the trauma of the local transmitter switching from Anglia to Yorkshire. It made no sense: Norwich was the regional centre, while Leeds and various towns I only knew from rugby league on Granstand were completely alien.
  7. This looks like the benefit of hindsight. There is always a calculated risk in these kind of decisions. At the time it certainly seemed wise to prioritise the semi-final against Roma. OK, we ended up losing by the odd goal over two legs and we could definitely have played better in the second leg, but it does not mean the priorities were wrong.
  8. In the 20s we had 4 consecutive top half finishescand again in the Martin O'Neil era, but this is the first sequences of 5.
  9. If we finish 10th or higher, this will mark the first time in the history of the club that we have finished in the top half of the highest tier in five successive seasons. The previous sequences of four were 1926-30 (7th, 3rd, 2nd, 8th) and 1996-2000 (9th, 10th, 10th, 8th) and now from 2017 we have 9th, 9th, 5th, 5th....
  10. Surely after this England's bid to co-host the World Cup should be withdrawn. A big dose of humility is in order. There is always a lot of outrage at incidents of racism in other countries, but England absolutely needs to get its own house in order. A country with this amount of football-related drunken xenophobic thuggery should not put itself as a potential host.
  11. I couldn't agree with you more. I am afraid that the behaviour of too many England fans during this tournament has once again shiwn the country in an appalling light: the total lack of respect towards other nations in the booing of anthems, the xenophobic songs, the abuse directed at supporters of teams, including young children and the storming of Wembley Stadium by thousands of ticketless fans, who by all accounts feel that what they did was justified. Would these people actually like England to host a major tournament in the future? Their behaviour has ensured the chances of this happening have been greatly reduced.
  12. Does anyone know if any of the players from the 1949 cup final team are still alive?
  13. You do know his mother died when he as a young boy. Playing so well and scoring a hat-trick on Mothers' Day clearly had a special meaning to him. You also see how he points to heaven when he scores a goal. Talking about God and devoting a win to mothers all over the world is not something you would expect in a post-match interview and it came across as genuinely humble and grateful.
  14. What were you guys saying about Maddison and Barnes?
  15. Oh. Which game are we going to lose? The one tonight or the FA Cup semi-final?
